MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING
OF THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS
OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE
HELD ON NOVEMBER 20, 2012
Chairman Shapiro called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek Building,
901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village, and noted for the record that the following
members were present: Chairman Alan J. Shapiro DDS and Secretary E. Butch Ehrke. Guests
Present: Fire Chief Richard Mikel, and Lory Special Newcomb of Stanard and Associates.
It was moved by Commissioner Kontek and seconded by Commissioner Ehrke that the
minutes of October 16, 2012 meeting be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense
with the reading thereof. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman
Shapiro declared the motion carried.
PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES
1. Advocate Medical Group, Invoice 1002201115 dated 11/05/2012 in the amount of
$843.75 for supplemental cardiology testing of police officer candidate.
CORRESPONDENCE
1. Memo to Police Chief requesting comments/constructive criticism regarding the six
month performance of two probationary police officers. Officers Wedekind and
Mazzuca to report before the BOFPC for their six month review on December 11,
2012 at 6:15 p.m.
2. Letter to Officer Timothy Kleinfeldt appointing him to the rank of Police Sergeant
effective December 3, 2012.
3. Notice of Suspension dated November 19, 2012 to Police Officer for violating Rules
and Regulations of the Elk Grove Village Police Department, Section 26.1.1A, Rules
of Conduct, Rule 11, (Incompetency and Inefficience in a Performance of a Duty);
one day suspension to be served on December 5, 2012.
4. Notice of Suspension dated November 8, 2012 to Police Officer for violating Rules
and Regulations of the Elk Grove Village Police Department, Section 26.1.IA, Rules
of Conduct, Rule 49 (Failure to appear in court when required or scheduled);two
day suspension to be served on November 27 and 28, 2012.
5. Notice of Retirement from Sergeant Edward Hansen effective November 29, 2012.
6. Memo from Chief Schmidt dated November 14, 2012 requesting that the BOFPC
promote the next in line on the police sergeant eligibility list due to the impending
retirement of Sergeant Hansen.
7. Written Reprimand dated October 19, 2012 to Police Officer for violating Rules and
Regulations of the Elk Grove Village Police Department, Section 26.1.1A, Rules of
Conduct, Rule l (Incompetence or Inefficienc in the Performance of a Duty.
8. Memo from Fire Chief Mikel regarding his request to update entry level
requirements for firefighter applicants.

OLD BUSINESS
1. Discussed Police Officer hiring process.
2. Discussed Firefighter hiring process.
3. Discussed Fire Lieutenant Promotional Process
NEW BUSINESS
1. Meeting with Fire Chief Mikel to discuss his request to update entry level
requirements for firefighter applicants.
ELIGIBILITY LIST/HIRING STATUS
1. Police Officer—Twenty one names remain on the final eligibility list published on
January 16, 2012. One hundred ninety two names remain on the preliminary
eligibility list scheduled to expire on January 16, 2014.
2. Firefighter— Seven names appear on the final eligibility list published on November
4, 2011; fifty-nine names remain on the preliminary eligibility list. List is scheduled
to expire on January 7, 2013.
3. Police Sergeant—Four names appear on the new eligibility list which will expire on
April 20, 2015.
4. Fire Lieutenant—Eligibility list has expired. Next promotional process to
commence shortly.
ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded Chairman Shapiro that the meeting be
adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro
declared the motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 6:45 p.m.
