MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING
OF THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS
OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE
HELD ON FEBRUARY 19, 2013
Chairman Shapiro called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek Building,
901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village, and noted for the record that the following
members were present: Chairman Alan J. Shapiro DDS, Secretary E. Butch Ehrke,
Commissioner Michael Kontek. Guest Present: Attorney John Kelly of Ottosen Britz Kelly
Cooper&DiNolfo.
It was moved by Commissioner Kontek and seconded by Commissioner Ehrke that the
minutes of January 22, 2013 meeting be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense
with the reading thereof. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman
Shapiro declared the motion carried.
PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES
1. Advocate Occupational Health, Invoice#473095 dated 2/1/2013 in the amount of
$425.00 for medical evaluation of police officer candidate.
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded by Commissioner Kontek that the
Board authorize the disbursement of funds for payment. The motion was voted upon by
acclamation whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried.
CORRESPONDENCE
1. Email communication with John Kelly regarding candidate requirements and
preference points applicable in next firefighter hiring process.
2. Notice of Suspension dated February 14, 2013 to Police Office for violating Rules
and Regulations of the Elk Grove Village Police Department, Section 26.1.1A, Rule
13 (Failure to adequately use Department property or equipment).
OLD BUSINESS
1. Police Officer hiring process.
2. Discussed Firefighter hiring process.
3. Discussed Fire Lieutenant Promotional Process

NEW BUSINESS
1. Discussion with John Kelly concerning hiring law changes during the past legislative
session.
ELIGIBILITY LIST/HHUNG STATUS
1. Police Officer—Fifteen one names remain on the final eligibility list published on
January 16, 2012. One hundred ninety two names remain on the preliminary
eligibility list scheduled to expire on January 16, 2014.
2. Firefighter—Eligibility list expired on January 7, 2013. Currently working on
requirements and schedule for new process
3. Police Sergeant—Four names appear on the eligibility list which will expire on April
20, 2015.
4. Fire Lieutenant —Eligibility list has expired. Promotional process is underway.
ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded Chairman Shapiro that the meeting be
adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro
declared the motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 6:30 p.m.
