MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING
OF THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS
OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE
HELD ON JANUARY 22,2013
Commissioner Ehrke called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek
Building, 901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village, and noted for the record that the
following members were present: Secretary E. Butch Ehrke and Commissioner Michael P.
Kontek. Guests Present: Fire Chief Richard Mikel,John Bantner, Diane Schultz and
Firefighter Jeremy Sullivan.
It was moved by Commissioner Kontek and seconded by Commissioner Ehrke that the
minutes of December 11, 2012 meeting be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense
with the reading thereof. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman
Shapiro declared the motion carried.
PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES
1. Ottosen Britz Kelly Cooper Gilbert & DiNolfo, Ltd., Invoice dated 12/31/2012 in the
amount of$1,200.00 for 2013 retainer fee.
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded by Commissioner Kontek that
the Board authorize the disbursement of funds for payment. The motion was voted
upon by acclamation whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried.
CORRESPONDENCE
1. Notice from Theodore Polygraph Services advising 2013 price schedule. Applicant
polygraph fee will not increase.
2. Notice of Retirement from Sergeant Jeffrey Prior effective 12/31/2012 after over
thirty years of service.
3. Memo from Chief Stephen Schmidt dated 12/19/2012 requesting that the
Commission promote the next candidate in line for the rank of Police Sergeant.
4. Memo to Ofc. Paul Syverson appointing him to the rank of Police Sergeant effective
12/31/2012.
5. Letter dated 1/9/2013 from Elk Grove Village Professional Firefighters Association
Local 2340 advising of their intent to utilize a monitor during the Fire Lieutenant
exam process.
OLD BUSINESS
1. Discussed Police Officer hiring process.
2. Discussed Firefighter hiring process.
3. Discussed Fire Lieutenant promotional process.

NEW BUSINESS
1. Meeting with Firefighter Jeremy Sullivan to discuss his six-month probationary
review.
ELIGIBILITY LIST /HIRING STATUS
I. Police Officer—Seventeen names remain on the final eligibility list published on
January 16, 2012. One hundred ninety two names remain on the preliminary
eligibility list scheduled to expire on January 16, 2014.
2. Firefighter—Eligibility list expired on January 7, 2013. New hiring process to
commence shortly.
3. Police Sergeant—Three names appear on the eligibility list which will expire on
April 20, 2015.
4. Fire Lieutenant—Eligibility list has expired. New promotional process underway.
EXECUTIVE SESSION
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded by Commissioner Kontek that the
Commission adjourn to Executive Session to discuss personnel matters. The motion was
voted upon by acclamation whereupon Commissioner Ehrke declared the motion carried.
Individual oral interviews were conducted with Fire Lieutenant candidates.
It was moved by Commissioner Kontek and seconded Commissioner Ehrke that the executive
session be adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Commissioner
Ehrke declared the motion carried and Board returned to general session.
ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded Commissioner Kontek that the regular
meeting be adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Commissioner
Ehrke declared the motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
