MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING
OF THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS
OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE
HELD ON JANUARY 17,2012
Chairman Shapiro called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek Building,
901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village, and noted for the record that the following
members were present: Chairman Alan J. Shapiro DDS, Secretary E. Butch Ehrke, and
Commissioner Michael P. Kontek.
It was moved by Commissioner Kontek and seconded by Commissioner Ehrke that the
minutes of December 20, 2011 meeting be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense
with the reading thereof. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman
Shapiro declared the motion carried.
PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES
1. Theodore Polygraph Service, Invoice 3097 dated 12/28/2011 in the amount of
$945.00 for polygraph examinations for seven firefighter candidates.
2. Theodore Polygraph Service, Invoice 3100 dated 01/06/2012 in the amount of
$135.00 for polygraph examinations for seven firefighter candidates.
3. Ottosen Britz Kelly Cooper Gilbert &DiNolfo, Ltd., Invoice #55017 dated
12/31/2011 in the amount of$1,200.00 for 2012 retainer fee.
It was moved by Secretary Ehrke and seconded by Commissioner Komek that the Board
authorize the disbursement of funds for payment. The motion was voted upon by acclamation
whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried.
CORRESPONDENCE
1. Order of Suspension dated 01/13/2012 to Police Officer for violating Rules and
Regulations of the Elk Grove Village Police Department, Section 26.L IA,Rules of
Conduct, Rule 15 (intoxication on or off duty). Five day suspension to be served on
January 26, February 2, February 3, February 12, and February 13.
2. Order of Suspension dated 01/11/2012 issued to Police Officer for violating Rules
and Regulations of the Elk Grove Village Police Department, Section 26.1.1A, Rules
of Conduct, Rule 49 (Failure to appear in court when required or scheduled). One
day suspension to be served on January 19, 2012.
3. Order of Suspension dated 12/22/2011 to Police Officer for violating Rules and
Regulations of the Elk Grove Village Police Department, Section 26.LIA, Rules of
Conduct, Rule 01 (Violation of any law, ordinance or Department General Order;
Rule 02 (Any action or conduct which impedes the Department's efforts to achieve
its goals or brings discredit upon the Department; Rule 15 (Intoxication on or off
duty). Five day suspension to be served on January 2, 3,20, 21 and 22, 2012.

OLD BUSINESS
1. Discussed police sergeant testing process and schedule.
2. Discussed police officer candidate scheduling.
3. Discussed firefighter hiring process.
NEW BUSINESS
1. None
ELIGIBILITY LIST/HIRING STATUS
1. Police Officer—ten vacancies;authorized to hire four. Final eligibility list contains
56 candidates and will expire on January 16, 2014.
2. Firefighter—five vacancies; authorized to hire four. Fourteen names appear on the
final eligibility list published on November 4, 2011; Fifty-nine names remain on the
preliminary eligibility list. List is scheduled to expire on January 7, 2013.
3. Police Sergeant —Ten names appear on the eligibility list which will expire on
February 4, 2012.
4. Fire Lieutenant—Ten names appear on the eligibility list scheduled to expire on
January 6, 2012; however,per agreement with IAFF Local 2340, list will remain in
effect until April 6, 2012. Next promotional process to commence on or after May
21, 2012 per notification to IAFF Local 2340 dated May 21, 2011.
ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded Commissioner Kontek that the meeting
be adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro
declared the motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 5:45 p.m.
