Nuisance Animal Removal:
The purpose of the meeting was to review a report provided by the Police Department regarding the
removal of nuisance animals.
Trustee Lissner noted that some communities pay for the removal of wildlife. He asked if this was
considered. S. Schmidt noted that the proposal is only in reference to private property complaints, and
stated that he was not sure the Village would want to be in a position to be remediating private property
nuisances. It was also noted that the Village is located neat to a major forest preserve, which could open
the Village up to some significant costs if the Village took on the financial responsibility of removing all
nuisance animals.
Trustee Franke asked what happens to stray dogs and cats. S. Schmidt noted that when the Village
receives a stray dog or cat, those animals are brought to Hollywood Kennels.
Trustee Franke asked if the Village would be placing a menu of pricing on the website. S. Schmidt noted
that the information would be placed on the website, but that the Village would not be involved in the
billing of services.
After a brief discussion, it was the consensus of the Judiciary, Planning and Zoning Committee to
recommend the Police Department's proposal. It was requested by the JPZ Committee for the Police
Department to implement a public relations campaign to educate the residents about the changes in the
nuisance animal program.
The meeting adjourned at 5:00 p.m.
