HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOMMUNITY SERVICES - 01/19/1995 - COMMUNITY SERVICES MINUTES ELK GROVE VILLAGE COMMUNITY SERVICE BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING MINUTES Thursday, January 19 , 1995 Meeting Room C, Lower Level Elk Grove Municipal Building Board Members Present: Board Members Absent: Mary Cortes Jim Foss Nancy Czarnik Ruth Guest Anne Feichter Laura Kuhn Alva Kreutzer Barbara Rettberg Ken Krzywicki Mary Paliganoff Dick Penley Staff Present: Bonnie Sokolowski Sharon Raschke Peg Vallillo Staff Absent: Sandra Costanza Call to Order• The meeting was called to order at 8 : 08 p.m. by Mary Paliganoff, Chairperson. Peg Vallillo moved to approve the minutes of the November, AIL 1994 Community Service Board meeting, which was seconded by Bonnie Sokolowski . The minutes were approved with a minor typo correction. Coordinator ' s Report: Given by Sharon Raschke Written reports were submitted for the months of November and December, 1994 . Intern' s Report- Written reports were submitted for the months of November and December, 1994 . Intergenerational Report: Given by Dick Penley A full report will be given next month. Substance Abuse: Given by Alva Kreutzer C.R.U.S .H. is working on the Active Parenting Today series, with sessions scheduled involving two elementary schools in January and February. Facilitators are Dean Reschke and Joan Fedota. Over 4000 Mothers Against Drunk Driving red ribbons were distributed. The "tie one on for me" campaign runs from November 1st to January lst. A report on the results of the Active parenting of Teens class will be given next month. CSB Minutes Page two ® Budget Committee: Mary Cortes , Anne Feichter, and Sharon Raschke all spoke of the need for a new computer for the Community Service office. There seemed to be general agreement and satisfaction with the budget as submitted. Senior Citizen Sub-Committee: Given by Dick Penley Dr. Roger Weise and Karolyn Swanson spoke at the meeting about substance abuse among the elderly. The problem is much more prevalent than is generally perceived. Written materials on this subject were passed out to the members present. Parade Committee: Given by Anne Feichter The date for the parade should be finalized by next week. the committee met last week and divided up areas of responsibility. General information on the parade will be included in the next village newsletter , both to residences and businesses . Blue Ribbon Committee: Given by Nancy Czarnik The committee met for the first time this week for a brainstorming session. The idea of a contest to develop the logo/theme of the 40th or Ruby anniversary extravaganza, open to students in 6th thru 12th grades and adults 18 and over, will be • presented to the Village Board. This anniversary logo could then be incorporated in areas such as the vehicle stickers . The actual anniversary date is July 17 , 1996 . A weeklong celebration is envisioned, with the current on-going events being incorporated for the entire year. Banners to hang outside on the village street posts is planned. The banners could then be given away to residents as souvenirs . Perhaps a nursery such as Klehms might develop of Red Peony to commemorate the 40th ruby anniversary. A parade would be planned on the weekend before or after July 17 , 1996 . Make A Difference Day: Given by Bonnie Sokolowski Alva Kreutzer volunteered to chair the committee. Make A Difference Day has been pushed back one week to October 28 , 1995 . Alva passed out evaluation forms to those members in attendance to complete to get their input for 1995 . New Business : None Old Business : Alva Kreutzer thanked everyone for coming to the Christmas ® party she hosted. Everyone had a good time.
