MEETING MINUTES

Call to Order:
The meeting was called to order at 7 : 03 p.m. by Anne Feichter,
President . Corrections were made in the minutes of the April
meeting. The names of the members present at that meeting whose
names began with letters after K were added.
In the April meeting minutes, the report of the election results
was placed under the heading of "Youth Council" . It was
corrected to place the report of the election results under "New
Business" . A motion was made by Mary Paliganoff to accept the
corrected minutes of the April meeting. The motion was seconded
by Ken Krzywicki . Motion passed.
Coordinator' sReport: Given by Sandy Costanza
The Community Service Department received 156 calls totalling 168
requests for service this month including inquiries about the
Easter Adopt-A-Family program, financial assistance, volunteer
opportunities . A letter was received from the National Make-A-
Difference Day headquarters thanking the Community Service office
for its participation in the National Make-A-Difference Day 1994 .
The original letter was sent to the Village President ' s office so
that it could be read by all. there.
At the Coordination of Service meeting Sandy handed out an
article pertaining to substance abuse and the elderly and
accidents . She gave this to the Community Service Board as well .
Intern' s Report: Given by Sharon Raschke
Sharon distributed copies of toll free numbers provided by the
Northeastern Illinois Area Agency on Aging. This information is
available to anyone upon request. She announced that the recent
food collection by the Postal Workers resulted in collecting over
5 tons of food which was distributed to the Northwest Community
Service, the Food Pantry at the Presbyterian Church and the Elk
Grove Township Community Day Care Center.

The annual Mother ' s Day Food Drive which is sponsored by the Elk
Grove Church Council was postponed until September so that the
local Postal Workers could coordinate their food drive with that
of the national postal workers .
Intergenerational : Given by Ruth Guest
A total of 150 seniors - 90 from the senior complex were taken by
bus on May 10 , to the Elk Grove High School to be guests of the
students for dinner and a viewing of the show "The Pirates of
Pezzance" .
Senior Citizen Sub-Committee : Given by Sandy Costanza
No meeting was held this month. Minutes of the last meeting were
included in the folder of each Community Service Committee. A
task force has been looking into several areas of consideration
including current health screenings offered and what additional
screenings should be offered.
Substance Abuse Prevention:
No report.
Parade: Given by Anne Feichter
Applications have been sent out to several hundred businesses in
the Village inviting them to participate in the parade. So far,
the response has been slow with only 24 written commitments .
Floats have been committed by the United Way, NBD Bank of Elk
Grove, Artists of Elk Grove Village. Verbal commitments have
been made by the Elk Grove High School Marching Band, the Pom Pon
squad, the Steel Band from Elgin Community College among other
groups . The Harris Bank of Elk Grove will debut it ' s "lawn
chair" singing drill team.
On Tuesday, May 30th Anne and Nancy Czarnik will appear on
"Koffee Klatch" on Channel 6 and will discuss plans for the
parade and the celebration in 1996 of the 40th Anniversary of Elk
Grove Village. The notice of the parade will be included also on
the Community Calendar of CLTV.
40th Anniversary: Given by Mary Paliganoff for Nancy Czarnik
Mary announced that the anniversary committee is working on plans
for a dance and auction as a fund raiser. They are hoping for
some response for suggestions for an official logo and hope to
use the logo on tee shirts and sweat shirts which will help raise
money also. So far, no logos have been submitted. Notices have
been given to local schools that such a contest is being held.
Intergovernmental Youth Council : Given by Laura Kuhn
Five events have been planned for the summer by the members of
the council . Two each of dance and pool party. The junior high
students will have their parties and the senior high students
will have their separate parties . One combined party of a dance

and pool party will be held for both groups together. The
parties will be held on Friday nights during the summer from June
23rd until August 18th with the exception of the 4th of July
weekend and the weekend of the parade. The Elk Grove Police will
be responsible for the dances and the Park District will be
responsible for the pool parties .
Make A Difference Day: Given by Mary Paliganoff for Alva
Kreutzer
Alva has suggested that the Community Service office and Board
act as a clearinghouse, matching volunteers with projects needing
volunteers . It was suggested that a sub-committee be formed, but
a sub-committee is in existence so all that is needed are members
to serve on such a committee. Mary Paliganoff, Bonnie
Sokolowski, Ruth Guest, Peg Vallillo agreed to serve on the
committee with Alva . After concrete plans have been formulated
the committee plans to go to the Village Board for approval of
such plans .
New Business •
The Community Service By Laws have been revised. On page 3 under
the Article V - Meeting Quorum the time of the meeting has been
changed to 7 : 00 p.m. and a quorum shall consist of seven ( 7 )
members of the board. Ruth Guest made a motion that the revised
by-laws be accepted. The motion was seconded by Ken Krzywicki .
The motion passed.
Buddy Foundation: Given by Anne Feichter
Anne wondered if it would be advisable to pursue the fact that
the Buddy Foundation might be willing to work with Elk Grove
Village in place of Save-A-Pet . The Buddy Foundation is a new
organization working in Schaumburg and Hoffman Estates to house
stray dogs in foster homes and to try to find permanent homes for
them. Mary Paliganoff suggested that the Elk Grove Police
Department might be open to learning about the Buddy Foundation.

A motion was made to adjourn by Ruth Guest and seconded by Laura
Kuhn.
The meeting was adjourned at 7 : 54 p.m.
