Feichter, President. Corrections were made in the minutes of the
May meeting. Under the heading of "Buddy Foundation" Mary Cortes
rather than Mary Paliganoff suggested that the Elk Grove Police
might be open to learning about the "Buddy Foundation" which is a
• new organization similar to the "Strays Halfway House" which
operates in Schaumburg and Hoffman Estates for stray dogs lost
and picked up by the police. A motion to accept the minutes of
the May meeting as corrected was made by Ken Krzywicki and
seconded by Jim Foss . Motion passed.
Coordinator's Report : Given by Sandy Costanza
The stats are not getting into the computer as quickly as we
would like. They will be ready definitely for the next meeting.
The Coordination of Service meeting for September will be on
September 26th. For the November 28th meeting we may have
"Rainbows for All God's Children" in addition to the Hospice
Services .
Sandy received a phone call from Mike Gallagher who is a teacher
at Mead Junior High School . He is interested in getting students
involved in Community Service . Sandy and Mike have agreed to
meet over the summer and Sandy sent him a packet containing
information about volunteer opportunities .
Sandy is responsible for manning two shifts for the United Way
Bingo and asked for volunteers - 4 people for Friday, August 4th
from 5-6 p.m. and 2 people for Saturday, August 5th from 6-8 p.m.
Bonnie Sokolowski and Nancy Czarnik will work Friday and Jim Foss
and Mary Cortes will work Saturday. Sandy announced that on June
16 she will attend a seminar in Chicago . The subject of the
seminar will be "Confidentiality, Records, Access , Privileged
Information" . Sandy and Sharon will occasionally put together a

Intern 's Report : Given by Sharon Raschke
Sharon spent a day in Chicago attending a seminar given by the
Illinois Department of Aging. The topic of the seminar was
"Counseling Depressed and Grieving Clients" for clients who
suffer loss of jobs , homes, spouse, etc. Sharon also reported on
a family who have been clients since the fall . The family
consisting of a mother, father, and two children looked for
assistance. They have been helped with food, job counseling.
The parents are working now and have bought a small house . The
Youth Employment Service has picked up considerably. Orientation
was held last week for 10, this week for 2 . During the summer
Sharon plans to have an orientation each week, even if only for
one application, to get them into the program immediately. We
need more jobs .
Intergenerational : Given by Dick Penley
The year ended with many houses painted, gutters cleaned, etc .
Hopefully it will continue under the guidance of a new man
because Dick has retired.
Substance Abuse: Given by Mary Cortes for Alva Kreutzer
Alva and Mary attended a Fighting Back board meeting. Alva was
renominated as vice president of that organization. A
significant cut back in funding from the state occurs because
part of the substance abuse money must go for violence
prevention. So Fighting Back will have to undergo some changes
to get the money.
Senior Citizen Sub-Committee: Given by Dick Penley
The committee is working on a concept of a health-wellness
screening day. A report has been submitted by a sub-committee of
the senior sub-committee. Because questions need to be answered
before the report is accepted, a meeting has been scheduled for
Thursday, July 13 at 6 : 00 p.m. so that a proposal can be
submitted to the Community Service Board for their consideration
to determine if they will support it and forward the concept to
the Village Board. The Senior Sub-Committee is a sub-committee
of the Community Service board which advises the Village Board.
No policy or decisions are made - only recommendations are made .
Parade: Given by Anne Feichter
Anne reported that, to date, about 60 units are committed to
appearing in the parade. A copy of the units involved was given
to each Board member. Anne met with the man who was chairperson
of the Lombard Lilac Parade and received from him information of
the units involved, costs, and anything that pertained to
assembling a parade that would be helpful to her. It is hoped
® that we will have about 80 participating groups, and, although

verbal commitments have been made, none is considered a positive
response until a written agreement is received. Although the
time for the returned response is passed, as of today, the
committee will continue to accept applicants .
40th Anniversary: Given by Nancy Czarnik
Nancy reported that the committee met and broke up into sub-
committees . The Avalon has been reserved for a kick off dance
and auction on February 9 , 1996 . The committee is attempting to
determine what price to charge to cover the costs involved -
food, entertainment, etc. No real work will be attempted on most
anniversary plans until after the Parade has been accomplished in
August 1995 . The Paddock Publications Company has agreed to
sponsor the band (Army, Navy, Air Force? ) which usually appears
each year in October. This year the concert will be held at Elk
Grove High School . So far no date has been set. The dance will
be on February 9th, the parade on July 21st and the band concert
in October. The village birthday party will be July 17th. A
positive agreement has been given for the use on July 19th of the
Pavilion. A sock hop will be held. The Avalon has been reserved
for 400 persons.
• Intergovernmental Youth Council : Given by Laura Kuhn
Tom Froelich of the Police Department appeared recently on
Channel 6 and explained the events planned by the Youth Council
for the summer. The first event will be Friday, June 30th from
7 : 30 - 10 : 30 a splash party at Rainbow Falls . The various church
groups have agreed to have two parents be available as greeters
at each event. The church council is thrilled to participate.
Posters are being displayed at each church. It was determined
that the young people wanted to be more involved in the planned
activities . They distribute posters around the village.
Students have signed up while in school to work at each event,
preparing the site, serving food, cleaning up. At the end of
each evening those young people working will be taken home by the
police. At the final youth council event to be held at Rainbow
Falls and teen center a dunk tank will be held. Laura is looking
for people to agree to be dunked. A minimal charge will allow
the young people to raise some money to give to a group of their
choice.
Make A Difference Day: Given by Peg Vallillo for Alva Kreutzer
A meeting of the Make A Difference Day Committee was held on June
5th. The group came to the consensus that the 1995 campaign
would be one of awareness . Groups would be contacted either by
mail or in person presentations . An awareness packet containing
information about the purpose of Make A Difference Day, the date,
® how to organize a project, how to promote a project, would be
available to anyone or any group interested. It was suggested
that a village wide poster would be of great value to promote

awareness . The committee believes that the cost involved would
be minimal . If the Community Service Board agrees with this
proposal , the committee will move forward with the awareness
packet . It is also recommended that the Community Service Board
sponsor a project for that day. The next meeting is scheduled
for July 6 at 9 : 30 a.m. After much discussion the Board agreed
that it would prefer to do a "hands-on" project . Sandy suggested
that she work with Building and to see what was needed. A
commitment was made by the Board to find one family or individual
who needed help and to concentrate their efforts there. Sandy
suggested that Nancy invite the Village Board, also, to join us
and come up with a project of its own.
New Business : Given by Dick Penley
Dick reported that he attended a conference about "Peer Jury" in
Philadelphia. Mary Cortes, the Youth Department has also become
involved in learning about the subject . If a youth is involved
in a criminal offense less that a felony offense he will be given
an opportunity of coming before a jury of his peers who will
decide on his punishment. The punishment will give opportunity
to do community service, research papers about potential of
dangers of crime committed rather than being sent to juvenile
court and receive a slap on the hand. A follow-up is done by
Community organizations and a juvenile officer. Mary reported
that the Elk Grove Police Department is interested in the concept
and looking into the different options . Dick has volunteered to
coordinate the project when it starts . Sgt . Bill Zimmerman, Mary
Cortes and Dick Penley are on the task force .
Old Business :
None
Wayne Jazwiak, of the Kenneth Young Center was present during the
meeting and announced that the Kenneth Young Center is
celebrating its 25th Anniversary. He suggested that Kenneth
Young could use some young people as volunteers . In reference to
the senior wellness day, Wayne announced that several times a
year national screening days are held for depression and anxiety.
The seniors are difficult to bring in because they were raised to
take care of problems themselves . He suggested, that at the time
of the next screening day, he advise the Community Service board
and the Senior Sub-Committee that it is being held. Dick asked
if Kenneth Young Center be willing to be incorporated in the
Village Senior Wellness Day. Wayne responded that he would have
to inquire about it.
