ELK GROVE VILLAGE COMMUNITY SERVICE BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING MINUTES Thursday, July 20, 1995 Conference Room "A" - Lower Level Municipal Building Board Members Present: Board Members Absent : Nancy Czarnik Mary Cortes Anne Feichter Jim Foss Ruth Guest Laura Kuhn Alva Kreutzer Mary Paliganoff Ken Krzywicki Dick Penley Barbara Rettberg Bonnie Sokolowski Staff Present : Peg Vallillo Sandra J. Costanza Sharon Raschke Visitor Present: Wayne Jozwiak, Kenneth W. Young Center Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 7 : 05 p.m. by Anne Feichter. AWL Minutes were approved and motioned by Peg Vallillo and seconded by Bonnie Sokolowski . Coordinator' s Report: Given by Sandy Costanza Sandy told the committee that the Historical Society is lending Community Service a canopy for the parade. Peg will pick up and deliver the canopy, which will be used for a first aid tent, at Salt Creek School . Sandy also told the committee she has tapped into a resource for financial assistance: the Roncoli Foundation. This however, is not an emergency resource. Community Service has had a client apply, for the first time, to this foundation. A copy of the Coordinator' s report was included in our packets . Intergenerational : Given by Sandy Costanza Sandy met with Jim Arey at Elk Grove High School (Dick Penley' s replacement) to discuss areas the students can get involved in. He wants to incorporate more community volunteer opportunities outside of what the Public Service Practicum students currently do. Substance Abuser Given by Alva Kreutzer C .R.U. S .H. will be hosting another Active Parenting of Teens at Grove Junior High this fall . Alva told Sandy she will hold places for any clients Sandy wants to attend. Wayne asked if clients from Kenneth W. Young Center could also be referred? Alva said yes . She would not turn away any parents . ® CSB Minutes Page two Senior Sub-Committee: The scheduled meeting was cancelled. Parade: Given by Anne Feichter 90 units are in place for the August 6th event . We have a good variety of units . The committee is actively seeking sponsorship from companies in Elk Grove Village. A press release will go out very soon. Letters to volunteers concerning their assignments will be sent out . Sandy still needs volunteers . Awards will be given at the end. 40th Anniversary Parade : Given by Nancy Czarnik The next meeting will take place August 14th. February 9th is the Dinner/Dance. At the August Community Service meeting there will be a parade presentation. A suggestion to sell commemorative license plates from the Secretary of State could be done at a reasonable cost of $16 .00. Intergovernmental Youth Council : No report. Make A Difference Day: Given by Alva Kreutzer A copy of the proposed informational flyer was given to the • board. The concensus of the Community Service Board was to proceed with the Make A Difference Day awareness campaign as presented. The Committee will now move forward and contact service groups in the Village to promote Make A Difference Day. The national sponsors have been contacted concerning their promotional flyers . No word to date as to when these will be ready. New Business : Bonnie asked about what Elk Grove Village has in place for senior citizens and residents on days of 100 degrees or more. Sandy indicated that Community Service would provide lodging through Salvation Army if necessary to any resident without air conditioning, especially the elderly and those with medical problems . This is similar to the services provided during the freezing months . Sheila Ray is on medical leave from the Hattendorf Center.
