Costanza Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 7 : 00 p.m. by Anne Feichter. A motion was made by Dick to amend the minutes from August, under Senior Sub-Committee report, to read "There were too many unanswered questions and not enough support from the Community Service Board" , not the sub-committee . Seconded by Jim. Motion carried. Coordinator' s Report : Given by Sandra Costanza Sandy gave an update on the fire at the Terrace Apartments and the victims . The Community Service office is still assisting some of the victims . The Elk Grove Church Council contributed 1 months rent, $800, for one of the families in the fire who were totally burned out and without renter' s insurance. The Northwest 2001 Task Force has been working on a transportation directory with the assistance of Pace. This directory will include Elk Grove Village . Distribution of the directory will be done through the villages and townships . The Northwest Housing Partnership Housing Preservation Program serves low or moderate income homeowners by providing no interest loans for home improvements . For this contract year, in Elk Grove Village, one home has been referred, 3 are on the waiting list for inspection and 3 are on the waiting list to apply. The PIC Resource Development Committee has begun the 1995 scholarship program. Sandy was appointed to the committee . In 1994, Elk Grove Village distributed $4, 000 in scholarship funds to 5 residents . In 1995 , the Village will be guaranteed to distribute 75% of what is raised. Currently 10 residents have indicated interest in applying for scholarships . The 6th Annual Community Food drive was held September 11th - 18th. Sixty boxes of food were collected. A large donation from CSB Minutes Page two Jewel is forthcoming. The Youth In Government Month will begin September 26th and run through October 24th. Sandy will have 2 students , one from each high school, to shadow her for a 1/2 day. The Senior Handbook is almost ready for printing. Little City Tag Days are October 5, 6 , and 7 . Sandy is seeking volunteers to tag for 1 hour shifts . Peg and Jim offered to help. Intern ' s Report: No report. Intergenerational : No report. Substance Abuse Prevention: Given by Alva Kreutzer The Active Parenting of Teens program will be hosted at Grove Junior High by CRUSH and is open to all parents . Alva told Sandy space is available if she wishes to refer any clients . The Red Ribbon campaign will be October 21 through 28 . CRUSH will be offering free red ribbon to all schools who wish to participate. The village, park district and library will all be contacted for a free roll of red ribbon. Alva announced she is the new President of the District 214 Fighting Back Advisory Board. The first meeting for 95/96 is September 27th. Senior Sub-Committee : Given by Dick Penley The next meeting will be Friday, November 3 at 10 : 00 a .m. Interqovernmental Youth Council : Given by Sandy Costanza for Laura Kuhn The 1995 summer blast was a big hit. The July 14th activity was not well attended due to the weather. Make A Difference Day: Given by Alva Kreutzer Over 60 informational packets have been distributed to local groups . To date the following groups are doing projects : Friends of the Critters of the Salt Creek are doing a creek clean up; Elk Grove Lioness will be doing a food drive; Rupley School is collecting aluminum cans and donating the money to the local food pantry; Community Service Board will paint two rooms at the Elk Grove Township Day Care Center, the Village President and two Trustees will conduct mock job interviews , Grove PTO will be involved in a coat drive . Alva will be appearing on Koffee • CSB Minutes Page three Klatch to promote Make A Difference Day. 40th Anniversary: Given by Nancy Czarnik The deadline is fast approaching for the logo contest. Only one entry has been received. The ticket price for the dinner/dance will be either $20 or $22 . A student, Darren Pike, who is a Eagle Scout, wants to run a "fun fair" for children in conjunction with the 40th Anniversary. An entrance fee could be a non-perishable donation to the food pantry. A suggestion was to do something for teens . New Business : Dick reported that the Peer Jury program is moving ahead. A meeting will be held 9/21 at 8 : 00 a.m. Wayne Jozwiak from Kenneth W. Young Center announced the National Depression Screening Day is October 5th from 7 : 00 - 9 : 00 p.m. free of charge. Space is limited, so you must call to register. Bonnie announced she attended the PADS organizational meeting on 9/13 . They have 25 new volunteers . The treasury for next year is in good shape. Old Business : ® None Announcements : Coordination of Services is Tuesday on Violent and Aggressive Youth. Adjournment: A motion was made to adjourn by Dick, Peg seconded. The motion carried.
