HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOMMUNITY SERVICES - 09/19/1996 - COMMUNITY SERVICES MINUTES • ELK GROVE VILLAGE COMMUNITY SERVICE BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING MINUTES Thursday September 19 1996 Conference Room C - Lower Level Municipal Building Board Members Present: Board Members Absent: Mary Cortes Jim Foss Nancy Czarnik Peg Vallillo Anne Feichter Ruth Guest Staff Present: Alva Kreutzer Beth Madden Ken Krzywicki Laura Kuhn Guests: Mary Paliganoff Gregg Riddle, EGV Fire Dept Dick Penley Barbara Rettberg Bonnie Sokolowski Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m. by Anne Feichter. A motion to approve the August minutes was made by Ken Krzywicki, seconded by Mary Paliganoff and approved by members of the Board. Corrections were made on page two under the heading "Make A Difference Day." The sentence should read... "the Board is receptive to the possibility of an additional project in conjunction with the PADS Walk but haven't determined what the project will be." An additional correction was made to the coordinator's report. The correction should read..."We received 111 calls and 145 service requests." Coordinator's Report: Given by Beth Madden Report attached in board packet. Committee Reports: Substance Abuse Prevention: Given by Alva Kreutzer They are in the process of the final Active Parenting session. CRUSH wants to donate $500 to an organization by 12/31/96. Let Alva know of any suggestions you may have. Dick Penley suggested ITI. Intergenerational: Given by Ruth Guest Ruth has an appointment with Elaine Bond of Elk Grove High School to discuss what the Service Learning group will be doing during the next month. 40th Anniversary Committee: Given by Nancy Czarnik The last 40th Anniversary event will be on October 19th when the Armed Forces Band plays at Elk Grove High School. The 40th Anniversary Committee will be holding a CSB Minutes Page Two drawing at the year's end to give away banners, license plates, etc. A notice will come out to the public in the Village newsletter w/details of the drawing. Intergovernmental Youth Council: Given by Laura Kuhn No report. New Business: Make A Difference Dav: Given by Alva Kreutzer Community Service Board and PADS had two planning meetings with another one planned for Monday. We are still in need of water donated from Hinkley and Schmitt. Registration for the Walk . Registration for the Walk will begin at 7:30 a.m. with the Walk beginning at 8:00 a.m. We are asking for 16 teen volunteers from Elk Grove High School to help. 18 packets were sent out for MADD entries. "Sock it to Em" MADD entry was submitted by Rupley School in conjunction with the 50th Anniversary of District 59. Peg Vallillo needs volunteers to assist her with making bibs and cot sheets for the Township Day Care Center. District 69 is also sponsoring a coat drive. Alva and Dick Penley will be appearing on Koffee Klatch on 9/26 2:15 p.m. for MADD. $336 worth of MADD buttons and tee-shirts were purchased for walkers and volunteers. Elk Grove Community Action Award: Given by Bonnie Sokolowski The Committee is in the fact finding stage. They will be contacting Naperville to find out how they started. "Elk Grove Community Action Award" is the tentative name. The group is still discussing the feasibility of starting this new program. Old Business: Disaster Training: Given by Beth Madden Disaster training will be tonight after meeting. Nancy Czarnik reported that she is unsure who the Village liaison will be for next year's parade committee. At this time the parade committee will be a subcommittee under the auspices of the Community Service Board. Announcements: John Ingram from United Way of Elk Grove will not be presenting tonight. Anne Feichter would like the Elk Grove organization, Second Chance Adoption, to speak at one of the Community Service Board meetings.
