MEETING MINUTES
Thursday, October 17, 1996

Call to Order:
The meeting was called to order at 7:01 p.m. by Bonnie Sokolowski, Acting President.
Corrections of the September minutes were on page two under New Business. "District
69 is sponsoring a coat drive should read "District 59 is sponsoring a coat drive." On
page three the date of the next board meeting should be "Thursday October 17, 1996"
instead of "November 21, 1996." A motion to approve the corrected minutes was made
by Ruth Guest and seconded by Jim Foss and approved by the Board.

Committee Reports:
Substance Abuse Prevention: Given by Alva Kreutzer
CRUSH will have a final parenting class at Grove Junior High School. Fighting Back
will hold a meeting on October 23rd. A brief summary of the plans for the upcoming
year was also shared with the Board.
Intergenerational: Given by Ruth Guest
Ruth met with Elaine Bond to explain the Elk Grove Community Action Award. Elaine
felt that five students might be interested in being on the board/committee. The Elk
Grove High School students have started playing bingo with the residents of the senior
complex on the second Tuesday of each month. Also, they have started to visit the
senior center.
• 40th Anniversary Committee: Given by Nancy Czarnik
® The last 40th Anniversary event will be on October 19th when the Armed Forces Band
plays at Elk Grove High School. Tickets are no longer available.

Intergovernmental Youth Council: Given by Bonnie Sokolowski for Laura Kuhn
No report.
New Business:
Make A Difference Day: Given by Alva Kreutzer
Alva announced some of the projects to take place on Make A Difference Day. Friends
of Salt Creek will be hosting a creek clean up. Rupley School will hold a sock
collection. Cub Scout Pack 293 will be sponsoring a clothing drive. Winter outerwear
will be collected by Byrd and Clearmont School. Peg Vallillo sewed 47 sheets and 34
bibs for the Elk Grove Township Day Care Center with the help of 2 volunteers, Tashie
Sha and Gale Carlson. Board members were assigned their duties for the PADS Walk
on Saturday, October 26, 1996. Details of the MADD PADS Walk were discussed.
Elk Grove Community Action Award: Given by Bonnie Sokolowski
The Committee decided that they wanted to have a good strong start and not just
another award program that might lose steam. The next meeting of the Committee will
be on Thursday, November 21, 1996 at 6:30 p.m.
Elk Grove Employment Opportunities: Given by Beth Madden
Beth suggested and the Board concurred that there was no need for the Community
Services office to do any more than what has been offered by other organizations. The
role of the Community Service office will be to provide information to clients about the
location of those places which offer specific information about employment
opportunities.
Christmas Party: Given by Bonnie Sokolowski
Anne Feichter has agreed to host the Christmas party on .Thursday, December 19,
1996. Because we didn't have a meeting in July a short meeting will be held before the
party itself. A public announcement will be made about the proposed meeting.
Old Business:
Disaster Training: Given by Beth Madden
Beth asked for some Board members to assist her in visiting the schools in Elk Grove
Village to assess the space available to be used in the Village disaster plan. Dick
Penley, Nancy Czarnik, and Alva Kreutzer agreed to help Beth.
Nancy Czarnik reported that she is unsure who the Village liaison will be for next year's
parade committee. At this time the parade committee will be a subcommittee under the
auspices of the Community Service Board.

Nancy Czarnik introduced her student shadow from Elk Grove High School, Wendy
Prochno.
Beth introduced John Ingram, United Way of Elk Grove President. John asked the
Board for help determining where assistance might be needed in Elk Grove Village.
The United Way must be sure that the funds are given where they are really needed.
The Community Service Board was unable to make any suggestions and it was
decided that Beth would continue to keep the Board informed of United Way activities.
Beth Madden announced that the holiday food baskets will be delivered on November
26, 1996 for Thanksgiving and on December 18, 1996 for Christmas. She asked for
help from the Board on distribution days.
Nancy Czarnik announced that the parade committee will be permanent. If anyone
knows of some one interested in being on the committee, please contact Nancy.
The 40th Anniversary banners and license plates will be awarded by drawing during the
® month of December. The form to be used was in the last Village newsletter.
Adjournment:
The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m. after a motion to do so was made by Ruth
Guest and seconded by Jim Foss. The next meeting will be on Thursday, November
21, 1996 at 7:00 p.m.
