Peg Vallillo Sandy Shearer, Second Chance Adoption Agency Call to Order: The meeting was call to order at 7:00 p.m. by Anne Feichter, President. Correction of the October minutes was on page 2 in the Make a Difference Day report the name "Tashie Sha"should be corrected to read "Toshie Sha". A motion to approve the corrected minutes was made by Alva Kreutzer, seconded by Jim Foss and approved by the Board. Coordinator's Report: Given by Beth Madden Report attached in Board packet. Committee Reports: Substance Abuse Prevention: Given by Alva Kreutzer Fighting Back was again awarded an Illinois Board of State Grant of$45,824. Alva is to serve on a committee to work on updating their guide and the Multi-Cultural guide which is given to incoming Freshmen parents. The students from District 214 who attended the Fighting Back meetings were asked for input regarding an after school stop for students "Homework Hangout" program. The pilot program will be housed in Town and Country Mall in Arlington Heights. Fighting Back is working on a "Smoke Free 2000" program which is a prevention program for younger youth. CRUSH: The last Active Parenting program session was held. The program was successful at both Grove Junior High and Queen of the Rosary Schools. ® Make a Difference Day: Twenty-eight volunteers collected 620 coats and jackets, plus assorted winter outerwear accessories. 421 socks were collected and delivered to Kenneth Young Centers, Township Day Care Center, PADS, and Shelter. Rupley School, Friends of Critters and Salt Creek Contact provided 12 volunteers who collected 3 cubic yards of debris. 6 Rotary Club volunteers painted a kindergarten room at the Township Day Care Center. Pack#293 from Queen of the Rosary collected 9 boxes of books. District 214 Literacy Program collected 1 bag of shoes/boots, 1 box of toys, 2 bags of bedding, 10 boxes clothes, 67 other winter clothing and 1 box of toiletries for PADS/Community Services. 20 volunteers and 62 walkers raised $3,000+ for the homeless. Peg Vallillo sewed 32 bibs and 47 cot sheets for the Township Day Care Center. Intergenerational: Given by Ruth Guest About 20 people at the senior complex are visually impaired and would like to have some one to take them out to restaurants. Elaine Bond has agreed that some high school students could provide transportation for such a group. The students also come to the senior complex on the last Tuesday of each month to play bingo with the residents. Interqovernmental Youth Council: Given by Anne Feichter for Laura Kuhn No report. New Business: Elk Grove Community Action Award: Given by Bonnie Sokolowski The committee met once and will meet at sometime in the future to get the project started. Christmas Party: Given by Anne Feichter ® The meeting for December and the Christmas party had been scheduled for Thursday, December 19th. Due to a conflict the public meeting concerning the proposed mall the party has been re-scheduled for Wednesday, December 18 at 6:00 p.m. A public notice of the meeting must be published. A motion to make the next Board meeting on Wednesday, December 18, 1996 was made by Alva Kreutzer, seconded by Bonnie Sokolowski and approved by the Board. The meeting will be held at 141 Hastings in Elk Grove Village. Community Service Office Budget: Given by Beth Madden Because the first draft of the budget is due on December 2, 1996 the budget committee will meet at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, November 25th to review the budget proposal. Old Business: 40th Anniversary: Given by Nancy Czarnik A meeting of the 40th Anniversary Committee will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, December 2, 1996. A drawing for the banners and license plates will be held on Tuesday, December 10, 1996 at 7:30 p.m. prior to the Village Board meeting. Announcements: Given by Anne Feichter The evaluation sheets for Beth Madden should be turned in to Anne if they hadn't already been turned in. Wayne Jozwiak from the Kenneth Young Center announced that on January 1, 1997, 24,000 persons in Cook County will loose their social security benefits. Construction is proceeding on the addition to the main building. The Center has an opening for a part-time coordinator for the Meals on Wheels program. Second Chance Adoption Organization: Given by Sandy Shearer, Guest Sandy explained that this not-for-profit organization was formed in November 1995. In the past year, about 100 cats and dogs in Elk Grove Village were placed into foster homes. Currently, there are no more openings for strays. The animals are available for adoption for a $50-65 fee. The organization would like to target 1997 as the year to educate the community about its work, the need for funds, for volunteers to help with adoption shows, transport pets to vets, etc. Adjournment: After a motion by Ken Krzywicki and seconded by Jim Foss the meeting adjourned at 7:43 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Peg Vallillo, Acting Secretary
