Call to Order:
The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. by Anne Feichter, President. A motion to approve
the November minutes was made by Alva Kreutzer, seconded by Bonnie Sokolowski and
approved by the Board.

Call to Order:
The meeting was called to order at 7:11 p.m. by Bonnie Sokolowski, Vice President. A motion to
approve the December minutes was made by Alva Kreutzer, seconded by Barbara Rettberg and
approved by the board.

Committee Reports:
Substance Abuse Prevention: Given by Alva Kreutzer
Fighting Back is proceeding with plans concerning their smoking cessation program "Smoke Free
2000". This will involve working with kids ages 9-12 years old. The Fighting Back secretary,
Chief Pavlock of Mt. Prospect, has taken the job of updating laws, ordinances and curfew for the
"Parties" guide that district 214 gives to all incoming freshmen. The "Homework Hangout" sub-
committee has been formed. They will discuss the feasibility of a meeting place for youth in the
Town & Country Mall.
I have volunteered to work on the multi-cultural handbook update. This resource guide is
distributed to various agencies in the Northwest suburbs.
CRUSH: Given by Alva Kreutzer
The final disbursements of monies have gone to Elk Grove High for a youth to attend the Illinois
Teen Institute summer conference. Also, monies will go the Elk Grove High School post prom
activities.
Intergenerational:

Elk Grove Community Action Award:
The Committee will continue discussing aspects of this award at a meeting set for 6:30 p.m. on
February 20th, Room C at Village Hall.

This award will be given at the April 11th Elk Grove Village Dinner. Mary Paliganoff, Peg Vallillo
and Alva Kreutzer have agreed to work on the committee. Beth Madden will be mailing out
informative letters to various community businesses/organizations explaining the award. The
committee will then meet regarding incoming applications for the award in order to select
appropriate recipients.
PIC Scholarships:
Laura Kuhn, Peg Vallillo and Mary Paliganoff volunteered for this committee. Approximately
$3,000 in scholarships is available for the betterment of self through continuing education.
There are a number of criteria to be met for earning the award as well as financial need. The
scholarships will be given at the April 17th PIC Dinner.
Old Business:
Budge :
Beth Madden explained revisions the Village Manager has made in the Community Service
budget. No date has been set for us to go before the Village Board yet.
Adopt-A-Family: Given by Beth Madden
Next year more physical help will be needed with the food baskets. Our current staff was unable
to do all the lifting.
Parade Committee: Given by Nancy Czarnik
Five current Village employees have now joined this committee. The parade is set for June
29th, inconjunction with Rotaryfest which will run June 25th through June 29th. This year's
theme will be the 1950's & 1960's.
New Business:
All-America City Award: Given by Beth Madden
Elk Grove Village will be applying for the All-America City Award sponsored by the National Civil
League in conjunction with the Allstate Foundation. There are about ten (10) criteria guidelines
to meet for this award.
Adjournment:
The meeting adjourned at 7:50 p.m. The next meeting for the Community Service Board is
scheduled for Thursday, February 20, 1997 at 7:00 p.m.
