HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOMMUNITY SERVICES - 02/20/1997 - COMMUNITY SERVICES MINUTES ELK GROVE VILLAGE COMMUNITY SERVICE BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING MINUTES Thursday, February 20, 1997 Conference Room C - Lower Level Municipal Building Board Members Present: Board Members Absent: Nancy Czarnik Mary Cortes Anne Feichter Alva Kreutzer Jim Foss Laura Kuhn Ruth Guest Barbara Rettberg Ken Krzywicki Bonnie Sokolowski Mary Paliganoff Dick Penley Staff Present: Peg Vallillo Beth Madden Gerri Literski Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Anne Feichter, President. A motion to approve the January minutes was made by Mary Paliganoff, seconded by Jim Foss and approved by the Board. Coordinator's Report: Given by Beth Madden Report attached in Board packet. Beth introduced Gerri Literski, the new Community Service intern. Intern's Report: Given by Gerri Literski Report attached in Board packet. Committee Reports: Substance Abuse Prevention: No report. Alva Kreutzer absent from meeting. Intergenerational: Given by Ruth Guest No report. However, Ruth did report that several attempted burglaries have taken place at the Senior Complex in the past few months. As a result, letters have been sent to the residents informing them of a seminar, to be given by Officer Debbie Damore of the Elk Grove Police Department, in which information about scams, protecting oneself from crimes, etc. will be presented. Intergovernmental Youth Council: No report. Laura Kuhn absent from meeting. New Business: Elk Grove Community Action Award: Given by Beth Madden ® The committee met prior to the Board meeting and decided that more time is needed before making a final decision. CSB Minutes Page two PIC Scholarships: Given by Beth Madden As of this date only one application has been received. The deadline for receiving applications is Friday, February 28, 1997. Volunteer Recognition Awards: Given by Beth Madden As of this date, only one nomination has been received. Jim Foss volunteered to take some applications to the Volunteer office at Alexian Brothers Medical Center, and Peg Vallillo offered to take a few to the Elk Grove Senior Center to spur some interest in naming nominations. The deadline is Friday, February 28, 1997, but it could possibly be extended for another week. Community Service Budget Presentation: Given by Beth Madden The Community Service budget will be presented to the Village Trustees at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 4, 1997. Beth asked for some Board members to accompany her to the meeting, Ken Krzywicki, Jim Foss, Anne Feichter, Ruth Guest and Peg Vallillo agreed to be present. Old Business: Mary Paliganoff reported that the present board will dissolve as of April 30, 1997. Parade Committee: Given by Ken Krzywicki Ken reported that the Secretary of State has returned the records necessary for the committee to close out its report. All American City Award: Given by Beth Madden Statistics are being gathered slowly and are due to be submitted at the end of March. Announcements: Given by Beth Madden An Ecumenical Concert will be held Sunday, February 23, 1997 at 3:00 p.m. at Elk Grove High School. A free will offering will benefit the Elk Grove Village Housing Fund. The next meeting of the Community Service Board is scheduled for Thursday, March 20, 1997 at 7:00 p.m. Adiournment: The meeting adjourned at 7:40 p.m. after a motion to do so was made by Ruth Guest and seconded by Ken Krzywicki.
