One correction noted for Old Business in the previous meeting's minutes. The sentence is changed to read "Mary Paliganoff reported that the present Board's appointments will expire as of 30 April 1997". A ® motion to approve the minutes with one correction was made by Alva Kreutzer and with a second by Jim Foss was passed unanimously. Coordinator's Report: Given by Beth Madden Report included in packet. One item of note is that as of today the office has received back 11 of 28 surveys sent out to licensed child care providers in Elk Grove. This survey was originally prepared from a list provided by the United Way Needs Assessment Committee and a copy is included in our packet. Intern's Report: Given by Gerri Literski Report included in packet. One item of note is that the work on the Senior Handbook is progressing well and should be completed by March 31st. Committee Reports: Substance Abuse Prevention: Given by Alva Kreutzer No report. Intergenerational: No report. Ruth Guest absent from meeting. Intergovernmental Youth Council: No report. Laura Kuhn absent from meeting. New Business: C Aft Elk Grove Community Action Award: Given by Beth Madden Beth reports that they are seeking outside people to come to the Board to increase its size. CSB Minutes Page two PIC Scholarships: Given by Beth Madden Beth reports that they have three people coming to the Village Board meeting on the 25th of this month where the winner will be announced. Bios are included in our packet. Elk Grove Park District Scholarships: Given by Beth Madden Beth reports that Barb Heller from the Park District would like to work with Community Services to develop the criteria and other related matters for the scholarships. She intends to include this information in the summer brochure and to seek donations for funding from the private sector as well as the Park District itself. Old Business: None Announcements: Given by Beth Madden and Bonnie Sokolowski Wayne Jozwiak from the Kenneth Young Center was present and he related that construction on the center was progressing nicely. He also said that they have updated their after hours crisis phone system to now be answered by a clinician. Elk Grove Presbyterian Church Food Pantry: Given by Beth Madden The Elk Grove Presbyterian Church Food Pantry is running low and needs donations. Food may be dropped off at the church Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon. ® Easter Basket Distribution: Given by Beth Madden Beth said that there were still two families that needed adoption for this year's program. Ken Krzywicki and Jim Foss both volunteered to cover this. Alva Kreutzer has volunteered to assist with the delivery of the baskets. The distribution will take place on March 27th. There were no corrections to the previous meeting's minutes. A motion to approve the minutes was made by Peg Vallillo and seconded by Ruth Guest. Approval was passed unanimously. Coordinator's Report: Report was included in packet. Beth Madden was not present at the meeting as she was representing the Community Service Department at the annual Private Industry Council Dinner. Intern's Report: Given by Gerri Literski Report was included in packet. The redesigned Community Service publications were presented. These include: The Senior Handbook, YES brochure, and Community Service brochure. In addition, the United Way licensed day care providers survey results were in the packet and highlighted. 28 surveys were sent out and 12 were returned. The Easter Basket program served 25 families this year. Baskets were distributed on March 27, 1997. Committee Reports: Substance Abuse Prevention: No report. Alva Kreutzer absent from the meeting. Intergenerational: Given by Ruth Guest Students from Elk Grove High School continue to interact with seniors from the Village Grove Apartments and the Senior Center by visits and activities at the high school. Intergovernmental Youth Council: Laura Kuhn's report was given by Anne Feichter A meeting to critique last summer's activities and plan for the upcoming summer is scheduled for next week. CS Minutes Pagetwo New Business: Elk Grove Community Action Award: Given by Anne Feichter A meeting will soon be set to continue this project. Partners Program: Given by Anne Feichter Martha Vela and Beth Madden have developed a proposal for a pilot program which would be geared towards promoting and supporting volunteerism with village employees. The program would involve assisting seniors from the Village Grove Apartments. Board members enthusiastically endorsed the idea. The Community Service Department will continue to develop the program. Board members asked that details/guidelines regarding the program be shared at future Board meetings prior to any further steps being taken. Elk Grove Park District Scholarships: Beth Madden's report was given by Anne Feichter Beth Madden has been working with Barb Heller from the Park District to develop the scholarship program. The Park District will be responsible for raising funds for the program and the Community Service Department will develop eligibility and applications. Nominating Committee: Given by Anne Feichter Due to the possible Board changes, elections for Board offices will be postponed until the May or June meeting. Old Business: None Announcements: Given by Anne Feichter Anne Feichter will accept all performance evaluations for Beth Madden as soon as possible. Anne Feichter announced that Bonnie Sokolowski resigned from the Community Service Board effective April 30, 1997. A copy of Bonnie Sokolowski's resignation letter was shared with the Board. Anne Feichter stated that Bonnie was an asset to the Board and her work was appreciated. Wayne Jozwiak from the Kenneth Young Center was present. He had nothing to report. The next meeting of the Community Service Board will be held on Thursday, May 15 , 1997 at 7:00 p.m. Adjournment: After a motion to adjourn by Ken Krzywicki and second by Ruth Guest, the meeting was adjourned at 7:50 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Mary Cortes, Acting Secretary
