MEETING MINUTES
Thursday, September 18, 1997
Conference Room C- Lower Level
Municipal Building
At 6:00 p.m. prior to the Community Service Board meeting, a meeting was held for volunteers
training for the Needs Assessment Survey to be done on September 25, 26, 27, 1997. Packets
were given to each volunteer and instructions and suggestions offered as to how to conduct the
surveys. Mary Cortes, chairperson of the Needs Assessment Committee conducted the
informational meeting.

Call to Order:
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m, by Mary Paliganoff, Acting President.
There were no corrections to the August minutes. A motion to approve the August minutes was
made by Anne Feichter, seconded by Nancy Czarnik and approved by the members of the
Board.
Agency Presentation:
The agency presentation was postponed until October.
President's Report:
There was no president's report tonight because the president was absent and did not pass on a
report to the Community Service Coordinator.
Coordinator's Report: Given by Beth Madden
Report in packet. Beth announced that the 8th Annual Food Drive of the Elk Grove Council of
Churches will be held the week of October 20-26, 1997. Food pick-up will be October 27th.
Beth announced that she will need volunteers to help pick-up the food.

Committee Reports:
Elk Grove Community Spirit Award: Given by Mary Hale
Mary brought information about the Community Spirit Award to the Village Board Committee of

the Whole meeting on September 9th. She displayed samples of the T-shirt, balloons, and yard
signs to be given to the recipients of the awards. The Elk Grove Times has agreed to be a
sponsor. She is looking for two other sponsors. It is anticipated that the Elk Grove Village Board
of Trustees will approve $4,229 as a seed fund at it's next meeting on September 23, 1997.
Needs Assessment Committee: Given by Mary Cortes
Mary reported that the committee is set to conduct the survey at various locations on September
25, 26, 27. Articles about the coming survey have been sent to the newspapers. Mary Cortes
and Beth Madden appeared on the Koffee Klatch program on Channel 6 to talk about the
upcoming survey. Results of the survey will be tabulated in October and November with the
results being announced in late November.
Volunteer Committee: Given by Anne Feichter
At the last meeting, four responses had been received, among them Kenneth Young and Talkline
citing needs for volunteers. The next meeting of the committee will be September 29th at 8:00
a.m. in the Community Service Conference Room.
Volunteer Recognition Committee: Given by Mary Paliganoff
The committee met recently to review the format for the selection of the recipients of the
Volunteer Recognition Awards. It was decided to keep the current format of the letter sent to
various organizations requesting nominations. The nominating forms will remain the same with
additional space provided on the back of the form for additional activity information. The
committee decided written guidelines should be established for future use in selecting the
• recipient(s) of the Volunteer Recognition Award.
New Business:
Personnel Committee: Given by Sal Pace
Sal reported that each Board member has received a copy of the Performance Achievement
Progress Review sheet. These are to be filled out, sealed in an envelope, addressed to attention
of Sal Pace and left at the Community Service office by October 1, 1997.
Old Business:
Make A Difference Day: Given by Paul Klevinsky
McDonald's new policy is that they are not permitted to give out coffee. Discussion was held
about the possibility of using their orange drink. Paul will look into other possible services for
coffee. He has not met with Elaine Bond of Elk Grove High School. The Elk Grove Trustees
have not yet come up with a project for Make A Difference Day. The Senior Complex will have a
food drive. A walk will be held to benefit the local PADS. Scouts will pass out flyers reminding
people to change their smoke detectors. Paul and Nancy will tape a Koffee Klatch program
about the Make A Difference Day activities on Monday, October 6, 1997. Sign-up sheets for
volunteers for the PADS walk were passed around to the Board members. Registration for the
walk will be on Saturday, October 25th at 7:30 a.m. The walk will begin at 8:00 a.m.
Community Service Board Members Reports:
Mary Cortes announced that the Peer Jury is looking for high school students to be jurists. Also,
adult assistance is needed for the program.

The Intergenerational Program has begun again at the senior complex. Ruth Guest reported the
monthly bingo games have resumed.
Announcements:
Ruth Guest thanked Beth Madden for speaking to the women's group of Prince of Peace Church.
The next regular meeting of the Community Service Board will be Thursday, October 16, 1997 at
7:00 p.m.
Adjournment:
The meeting adjourned at 7:59 p.m. after a motion to do so was made by Dick Scholten,
seconded by Mary Cortes, and approved by the Board.
