HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOMMUNITY SERVICES - 10/16/1997 - COMMUNITY SERVICES MINUTES (2) ELK GROVE VILLAGE COMMUNITY SERVICE BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING MINUTES Thursday, October 16, 1997 Conference Room C- Lower Level Municipal Building Board Members Present: Board Members Absent: Mary Cortes Dick Scholten Nancy Czamik Anne Feichter Staff Present: Jim Foss Beth Madden Ruth Guest Mary Hale Paul Klevinsky Guests Present: Alva Kreutzer Bart Dill, Village Trustee Salvatore Pace Stewart Hale, PADS Mary Paliganoff Chris Prochno, Village Trustee Ed Ruszkowski Peg Vallillo Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 7:02 p.m. by Alva Kreutzer, President. ® A correction to the September minutes was noted. On page 2, line 3 the phrase "She is looking for two other sponsors" should be changed to read "She is looking for ten(10) other sponsors." A motion to approve the corrected September minutes was made by Sal Pace, seconded by Jim Foss and approved by the members of the Board. Agency Presentation: Given by Stewart Hale Mr. Hale represented PADS (Public Action to Deliver Shelter) of Elk Grove Village. He explained the history of PADS, the numbers of sites available each night, meals served, etc. Elk Grove Village PADS is held each Tuesday night from October until the end of April . The organization is financed and run by volunteers. President's Report: Given by Alva Kreutzer Alva and Beth Madden attended a regional conference entitled "Partners for Healthier Communities" sponsored by Northwest 2001. The meeting was held on September 5, 1997. She discussed and passed out information on human dynamics. Coordinator's Report: Given by Beth Madden Report in packet. Intern's Report: Report in packet. Committee Reports: • Elk Grove Community Spirit Award: Given by Mary Hale • CSB Minutes Pagetwo A Committee meeting was just held prior to the Community Service Board meeting. The Committee members have been working on developing the logo; they hope to make a final decision soon. They are searching for sponsors and committee members. They hope to recognize the first award recipients in January or February 1998. Needs Assessment Committee: Given by Mary Cortes Over 500 surveys have been received. The Committee met on October 9, 1997 to discuss data tabulation. The results should be ready in late November. The Committee will be disseminate the results to the appropriate agencies/departments. The results will be included in the Village newsletter, press releases, etc. Volunteer Committee: Given by Anne Feichter At the Committee's last meeting on September 26th, the members went through responses to the original letter and request for information about volunteer needs. The Committee selected seven (7) organizations to begin featuring. The organizations selected are: The Kenneth Young Center Talkline PADS Elk Grove Senior Center Second Chance Adoption Elk Grove Township Daycare Center Manorcare Health Services Each Committee member is responsible for 1 or 2 organizations, calling them personally to better understand the organization and its volunteer needs. The Committee will work with them to prepare a press release describing their volunteer opportunities and to prepare an on-site Channel 6 filming of the show Elk Grove Matters produced by Dana Nevell. The next Committee meeting will be at 8:00 a.m. on Monday November 3, 1997. New Business: Community Service Board Holiday Party: Given by Alva Kreutzer The December meeting will be a holiday party at Alva Kreutzer's home on December 18th. Old Business: Make A Difference Day: Given by Paul Klevinsky and Nancy Czarnik Nancy Czarnik, Paul Klevinsky, and Stewart Hale appeared on Koffee Klatch to discuss the upcoming PADS walk and other activities planned for Make A Difference Day, October 25, 1997. In addition to the PADS walk other MADD activities include: Clean up of the Salt Creek by Critters of Salt Creek Village Trustees will clean up some resident's yards Rupley school will write letters for Love Letters Chris Prochno and Nancy Czamik (Village Trustees)will decorate the Hattendorf Center for Halloween and work at Alexian Brothers Village Blood Drive Senior Complex- food drive School District 59- coat drive CSB Minutes Page three The opening ceremony for Make A Difference Day will be held in front of the Pavilion at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 25, 1997. Personnel Committee: Given by Sal Pace Thirteen (13) performance evaluations had been passed out to Community Service Board members. Only five (5) have been returned. Members expressed their concerns regarding the method of evaluation. The next meeting will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 23, 1997. Community Service Board Members Reports: Alva Kreutzer: Alva attended a meeting of Fighting Back on September 24, 1997. It was reported at the meeting that all area high schools will be trained in crisis intervention. Fighting Back is establishing a parent partnership program which will entail working with parents' workplace. The smoking cessation program is under way- Police Chief Ron Pavlock of Mount Prospect is working with area police chiefs about current curfew ordinances. Bill Johnson, director of the alternative school gave an overview of the Project Reclaim program which will take students who have been expelled from school. The next meeting will be on December 9, 1997 at 9:00 a.m. As of date, the Cook County Sheriffs Youth Award recipients have not received any notice of their awards. Ed Ruszkowski: Ed reported that 18 volunteers from Elk Grove High School helped the Lions • Club with it's recent candy day. Announcements: The next regular meeting of the Community Service Board will be Thursday, November 20, 1997 at 7:00 p.m. Adjournment; The meeting adjourned at 8:14 p.m. after a motion to do so was made by Mary Paliganoff, seconded by Mary Hale, and approved by the Board.
