HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOMMUNITY SERVICES - 11/20/1997 - COMMUNITY SERVICES MINUTES ELK GROVE VILLAGE COMMUNITY SERVICE BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING MINUTES Thursday, November 20, 1997 Conference Room C - Lower Level Municipal Building Board Members Present: Board Members Absent: Mary Cortes Paul Klevinsky Nancy Czarnik Ed Ruszkowski Anne Feichter Jim Foss Staff Present: Ruth Guest Beth Madden Mary Hale Alva Kreutzer Guests Present: Salvatore Pace Nancy Helmick, Talkline Mary Paliganoff Dick Scholten Peg Vallillo Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 7:03 p.m. by Alva Kreutzer, President. . No corrections were noted for the October minutes, a motion to approve the minutes was made by Nancy Czarnik, seconded by Jim Foss and approved by members of the Board. Agency Presentation: Given by Nancy Helmick Mrs. Helmick, Director of Talkline explained the purpose of Talkline, the training of volunteers by mental health professionals, the history of the program, and how it is funded. President's Report: Given by Alva Kreutzer Alva announced that the Christmas Party of the Board will be at her house on Thursday, December 18, 1997 at 6:30 p.m. A sign-up sheet for food was passed around to Board members. Coordinator's Report: Given by Beth Madden Report in packet. The Community Service office is coordinating time slots for the Salvation Army Bell Ringing collection. Anyone wishing to participate should call the Community Service office. The dates will be the first three weekends in December. Intern's Report: Report in packet. Committee Reports: IMP Elk Grove Community Spirit Award: Given by Mary Hale CSB Minutes Page two The Committee met this evening, prior to the Community Service Board meeting. To date five sponsors are confirmed, one almost positive, and two possible. The Committee will consist of 5 male and 5 female members of different age groups. Several persons still are needed. The nomination form will be mailed in the Village Newsletter which will be delivered during the first part of December. Koffee Klatch is scheduled to be taped on December 8, 1997. The program is expected to be launched in January or February. Needs Assessment Committee: Given by Mary Cortes The Community Service office continues to work on data tabulation. A committee meeting will be called once the initial results are in a workable form. Committee members have raw data reports in their packets today. Volunteer Committee: Given by Anne Feichter The Committee met on November 3, 1997. Each committee member was assigned a few organizations to learn of their needs and to prepare press releases pertaining to those groups. One organization will be spotlighted each month. In November the Kenneth Young Center is spotlighted. In December it will be PADS, and in January, Talkline. The next meeting of the Volunteer Committee will be January 12, 1998. New Business: Agency Presentation Evaluation: Given by Alva Kreutzer The Board members were asked to evaluate the effectiveness of the monthly agency presentations and decided that they were in favor of continuing the program. It was suggested that the agency presentation coincide with the volunteer program to be spotlighted each month. Budget Committee: Given by Beth Madden On December 5, 1997 at 9:00 a.m. the Budget Committee will meet to see the draft of the budget before it is sent to the Village Manager. Holiday Baskets: Given by Beth Madden Thanksgiving baskets will be distributed on Tuesday, November 25, 1997. Christmas baskets will be distributed on Friday, December 19, 1997. Old Business: Sheriffs Youth Medal of Honor: Given by Alva Kreutzer Press releases and letters about the recipients of the Sheriff's Youth Service Medal of Honor- Michael Voss and Michael Nalepa have been sent to the various newspapers. The awards will be given on December 2, 1997 at the James R. Thompson Center. Community Service Board Holiday PartV: Given by Alva Kreutzer The Board members were reminded of the holiday party to be held on December 18, 1997 at 6:30 p.m. at the home of Alva Kreutzer. Make A Difference Day: Given by Mary Hale To date just over$3,000 has been received as a result of the PADS Walk on Make a Difference Day. • Personnel Committee: Given by Sal Pace The Committee met on November 11th to put together the first draft of a new evaluation form to be used by Board members to evaluate the Community Service Coordinator. A copy of the first CSB Minutes Page three J draft was passed out to each Board member. After discussion it was voted to require each Board member to sign his or her evaluation form. A change can be made in the future if it is necessary. Corrected forms will be passed out at the January 15th meeting of the Community Service office by January 29th, tabulated by Alva Kreutzer and sent to the Village Manager by February 2, 1998. Community Service Board Members Reports: Jim Foss: Toys are being collected by Jim for distribution to Elk Grove Township Hall, Elk Grove Community Service, St. James Church, Hispanic, Vietnamese and Cambodian communities until December 13, 1997. Nancy Czarnik: Nancy attended a ceremony where Dana Nevill of Elk Grove TV Channel 6 was given an award from MediaOne for the "Elk Grove Matters" program. i Mary Cortes: The next meeting of the Elk Grove Village Police-Seniors group will be on Friday, November 21, 1997. The Volunteer Committee will meet on January 12, 1998. The Woodfield Area Charity Organization needs volunteers to help children shop for Christmas gifts at Walmart on Saturday, December 6, 1997 from 7:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Announcements: The next regular meeting of the Community Service Board will be Thursday, January 19, 1998 at 7:00 p.m. Adjournment: The meeting adjourned at 8:23 p.m. after a motion to do so was made by Anne Feichter, seconded by Jim Foss, and approved by the Board.
