MEETING MINUTES
Thursday, February 19, 1998

Call to Order:
The meeting was called to order at 7:04 p.m. by Mary Paliganoff, Acting Chairperson.
A correction to be made in the January minutes-the Needs Assessment Committee report
should read as follows. "The Committee met in early December, 1997, and discussed various
following issues such as: The Community Service Board use of the results and dissemination of
the results. The Board asked the committee to return to the next meeting with a list of
recommendations re: how the Board can use the informal survey results.
A motion to approve the corrected minutes was made by Jim Foss, seconded by Ed Ruszkowski,
and approved by members of the Board.
Chairperson's Report:
Due to the absence of the Chairperson, there was no Chairpersons report.
Coordinator's Report: Given by Beth Madden
Report in packet.
Committee Reports:
Elk Grove Village Community Spirit Award: Given by Mary Hale
The sponsors for this award are: Alexian Brothers, Century 21 Dustin-Herman, Johnson
Insurance, the Lions, Mr. Bo's, Queen of the Rosary, Salt Creek Barbecue, Sheraton Suites,
Tasty Dawg and Total Nutrition.
Committee member Lynn Knoll, has been replaced by Karen Farina.
On Sunday, February 15, 1998 awards were handed to:
Carole Dankers for her efforts in organizing food drives for the food pantry.
® Phillip Willis for his efforts at the Senior Center, donating blood to a dying relative, and for
volunteering on Channel 6.

John Trivedi, Super 8 Motel for offering free rooms to relatives and friends of patients in
hospitals, nursing homes, etc. during Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Kathy Mode and Trudy DiSalva for organizing food for a Thanksgiving dinner for a family having
hard times with illness and finances.
At a meeting on February 4, 1998, spirit winners for April were selected: Jack and Kay Moran for
their work on the book sale at the Elk Grove Library and Ruth Boebel-Schneider for many
volunteer hours at the Senior Center, Church, etc. They will be aired on Village Matters in April.
Needs Assessment Committee: Given by Mary Cortes
In the packet was the list of recommendations made by the Needs Assessment Committee to the
Board. A discussion followed as to what the Board should do with the recommendations. It was
decided that the recommendations should be used as a guide for the Board. The Committee
chairman was directed to inform the Village Board of Trustees of the results, stressing that it was
an informal survey. A press release and letters to other departments/agencies re: the results
will also be given to the Board of Trustees for feedback.
Volunteer Committee: Given by Anne Feichter
The schedule of organizations to be highlighted is set until June.
The next meeting of the committee will be at 6:30 p.m. on March 19, 1998.
® New Business:
Sheriffs Senior Medal of Honor- Board members were asked to nominate candidates for this
award.
Old Business:
The Workforce Development Council Scholarship Committee will meet at 6:30 p.m. on March
26, 1998.
The Volunteer Recognition Committee will meet at 7:30 p.m. on March 5, 1998.
Community Service Board Members Reports:
No report.
Announcements:
The next meeting of the Community Service Board will be Thursday, March 19, 1998 at 7:00
p.m.
Adiournment:
The meeting adjourned at 8:15 p.m. after a move to do so was made by Mary Hale, seconded by
Jim Foss and approved by the Board.
