Respectful)I su ® Mary Coftes, Secretary Coordinator's Report -- May 1998 Approximately 5,000 people attended the 10th Annual Senior Celebration Day. Which surpasses attendance records in past years. A total of 60 exhibitors including health screenings provided area seniors with a wealth of information. Planning for the 11th Annual Senior Celebration Day will resume in October. During the May United Way Board meeting, I was voted in as Secretary. Besides taking the minutes, the Secretary is a member of the Executive Board which sets the direction of the United Way of Elk Grove. I have also become actively involved with the United Way of Suburban Chicago's Needs Assessment Committee. In the past, local United Ways were required to complete a needs assessment every four year. These assessments were used to help determine the level of funding an affiliate agency would receive. However, this data was unreliable and very subjective. Consistency in the administration and interpretation of data varied between the United Ways. This Committee is working on overhauling the current process. Our office maintains the "Where Do I Turn for Help?" section in the Jaycees telephone directory. The Jaycees are currently in the process of compiling information for the next edition. We completed the updated version of our section during the month. ® Respectfully submitted, Beth Madden, Coordinator Elk Grove Village Community Service
