Call to Order:
The meeting was called to order at 7:01 p.m. by Alva Kreutzer, Chairperson.
Action Items:
A motion to approve the May minutes was made by Peg Vallillo, seconded by Dick Scholten and
approved by members of the Board.
Agency Presentation:
Chris Hess, Nurse Manager from the Community Family Health Center, presented on the new
clinic available for indigent residents of Elk Grove Township.
Chairperson's Report:
Given by Alva Kreutzer. Alva read a letter of appreciation to the Board from Audrey Bosslet,
recipient of the Volunteer Recognition Award.
Coordinator's Report:
Given by Beth Madden. Report included in Board packets.
Committee Reports:
Elk Grove Community Spirit Award Committee: Given by Beth Madden in Mary Hale's absence.
The committee will meet again in September 1998, as awards for the summer months have
been already been chosen. The committee will have a float in the parade and will have a booth
at the Rotary Fest. May award recipients were Dr. Ray Broderick and Jerome Swanson.
Recipients for June are the Nikola Family, Sharon Chavoen, and Kathleen Andjulis.
Volunteer Committee: Given by Beth Madden in Anne Feichter's absence. The agencies to be
highlighted in upcoming month's are Read to Learn in June and HIV Coalition in July.

New Business:
There was no new business.
Old Business:
Community Paint-a-thorn Given by Beth Madden. The date for the event is September 12th with
the rain date of September 19th. Nancy Czamik will talk with the Board of Trustees regarding
this opportunity. Any interested people in this event can see Beth Madden.
Handyman Directory: Given by Beth Madden. The Board packets included handyman
directories from other communities. There was much discussion regarding whether the Board
and/or the Community Service Office should take on this project. Many raised concerns
regarding liability and the process of choosing and sceening those who would be in the directory.
Beth will address the Board's concerns and questions with the Village Attorney. In addition she
will further explore the experiences of the other organizations who have directories. The Board
choose to continue to explore this issue.
Make A Difference Day: Given by Beth Madden. The Community Service Office has received 8
wishlists from local agencies. Beth will continue to encourage other agencies to respond. Alva
Kreutzer will confirm with the PADS Coordinator that the Board will be handing the PADS Walk
administrative responsibilities over to PADS.
dft Red Cross Shelter Operations Training:
Board members were very pleased with the training received on May 21 and 28,1998 given by
Frank Kriz, Disaster Specialist.
Community Issues:
No new issues were raised.
Community Service Board Member Reports:
Alva Kreutzer reported about the curfew ordinances handout and the multicultural guide made
available from Fighting Back. She also attended the District 214 Recognition Breakfast where
she and four Elk Grove High School students were honored. In addition, she attended a
presentation on DUI issues at the district offices. She will be attending the Community
Education Conference in Flint, Michigan in the near future.
Announcements:
Nancy Czarnik asked for volunteers for the parade this Sunday. The next meeting of the
Community Service Board will be Thursday, July 16, 1998 at 7:00 p.m.
Adjournment:
The meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m. after a move to do so was made by Paul Klevinsky,
seconded by Nancy Czarnik and approved by the Board.

Call to Order:
The meeting was called to order at 7:06 p.m. by Alva Kreutzer, Chairperson.
Action Items:
A correction was noted in the minutes of the June 18 meeting. Mary Hale had been listed as
present, but in fact was absent. The corrected minutes were approved after a motion to do so
was made by Jim Foss and seconded by Ruth Guest.
Agency Presentation:
Mike Cavallini, the Health Department Coordinator for Elk Grove Village explained the duties
and services offered by his department.
Chairperson's Report: Given by Alva Kreutzer
Alva announced that Beth Madden had received a call from Nancy Carlson requesting
information about the number of Community Service Board members attending the Camelot on
the Green celebration.
Coordinator's Report: Given by Beth Madden
Report included in Board packets.
Committee Reports:
Elk Grove Community Spirit Award Committee: Given by Mary Hale. Mary announced that two
new members have been added to the Committee, Don Kirsten and Carolyn Smith. Because
award recipients have been selected through September, there will not be any committee
meetings during the summer. The recipients for July 21st are Pat Leander and Dick
McCloughan. August 3rd are Jim Heffern and Janet Murray. September are Kenneth Krey and
Sally Kendall.
Mary Paliganoff requested that the complete list of Community Spirit Award recipients be
included in the packet next month. Beth agreed to do so.

Volunteer Committee: In the absence of Anne Feichter, Beth announced the HIV Coalition was
highlighted on Channel 6 in July. In August the United Way of Elk Grove will be the agency
highlighted. Mary Paliganoff announced that the committee is trying to arrange for agencies
through the rest of the year.
New Business:
There was no new business.
Old Business:
Community Paint-A-Thon: Given by Nancy Czarnik. In reference to the proposed Paint-A-Thon,
Nancy Czarnik announced that the Village Trustees were unable to find a date convenient for all
the members. A suggestion was made that a letter be sent to all other Boards and Commissions
to solicit help. The date set will be September 26th with October 3rd as the rain date.
Handyman Directory: Given by Beth Madden. Beth announced that she had talked with George
Knickerbocker, Village Attorney. He felt that with the standard disclaimer the Directory would
present no problems. After a discussion by the Board members present, it was decided that Beth
Madden should put together the proposal for the Directory and that it should be presented to the
Village Board of Trustees for their approval before we go further with it.
• Make A Difference Day: Given by Beth Madden. Only 10 responses have been received in
response to letters sent to agencies in the Village. Beth announced that local Walmarts have
$1000 Scholarships available for Make a Difference Day projects.
Community Issues:
Given by Beth Madden. Beth reported about a conference she attended.
Community Service Board Member Reports:
Nancy Czarnik reported that the Village recently honored Brother Phillip Kennedy.
Ruth Guest reported that on July 18th the Senior Complex would celebrate its 22 year
Anniversary with a picnic.
Alva Kreutzer reported that she attended a conference in Flint, Michigan at the National
Community Education Center.
Announcements:
The next meeting of the Community Service Board will be Thursday, August 20, 1998 at 7:00
p.m.
