HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOMMUNITY SERVICES - 11/19/1998 - COMMUNITY SERVICES MINUTES • ELK GROVE VILLAGE COMMUNITY SERVICE BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING MINUTES Thursday, November 19, 1998 Conference Room C - Lower Level Municipal Building Board Members Present: Board Members Absent: Alva Kreutzer Mary Hale Mary Cortes Paul Klevinsky Peg Vallillo Ruth Guest Anne Feichter Jim Foss Nancy Czamik Sal Pace Staff Present: Mary Paliganoff Beth Madden Ed Ruszkowski Dick Scholten Call to Order: Alva Kreutzer, Chairperson, called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Action Items: There was one correction to the minutes of the October meeting. Ed Ruszkowski absence was noted. The corrected minutes were unanimously approved following a motion to do so by Peg Vallillo, seconded by Jim Foss. Agency Presentation: Nancy Chamberlain from the Elk Grove Food Pantry at the Elk Grove Presbyterian Church presented on the food pantry. Chairperson's Report: Alva Kreutzer reported that Beth Madden's evaluation had been completed. Coordinator's Report: Given by Beth Madden Report included in Board packets. Beth asked Board members to sign up for the Salvation Army bell-ringing program. Also, she handed out copies of a survey on community issues from the Schaumburg Township. Committee Reports: Elk Grove Community Spirit Award Committee: Given by Beth Madden Beth announced the committee continues to meet and hand out awards to selected nominees. Volunteer Committee: Given by Anne Feichter Anne announced the committee will meet in January to set the schedule of agencies to be highlighted for 1999. CSB Minutes, Page two New Business: There was no new business Old Business: Elk Grove Village Clean-up Dav: Given by Beth Madden Beth continues to be in contact with Waste Management regarding a special pick up for Earth Day '99. Make A Difference Day: Given by Beth Madden Photos of the Pads Walk-a-thon and Make a Difference Day were shared with the Board. These photos will be added to the "photo quilt" on the Make a Difference Day web site. Both Peg Vallillo and Jim Foss participated in individual projects for the day. Property Maintenance Directory: Given by Beth Madden and Alva Kreutzer Alva and Beth attended a Committee of the Whole to discuss the proposal with the Board of Trustees. There was much discussion between the Trustees regarding the issue. Ultimately, the Board of Trustees voted 4-3 against the proposal. They cited concerns with liability. The Board of Trustees did approve the idea of having an informational handout for residents on how to locate, screen and hire a private maintenance worker. Budget Committee: The committee will meet on Dec. 7, 98 at the Community Service Offices to begin the budget process. • Community Issues: There were no new issues discussed. Community Service Board Member Reports: There were no reports. Announcements: • Peg Vallillo announced that the Harper Festival Chorus will have a concert on Dec. 6, 1998. She will also be working at the Kenneth Young Center fundraiser at Kohl's. • Alva Kreutzer announced that Dist. 214 now has a job interview clothes closet seeking donations. Also, Alva announced that she has taken a position with the Wood Dale Police Department, as she will be working on a Juvenile Delinquency Program and as a Community Resource Coordinator. • Ed Ruszkowski announced that his realty agency will be a "Toys for Tots" donation site this year. • The next meeting of the Community Service Board will be Thursday, January 21, 1999 at 7:00 p.m. Adiournment: The meeting adjourned at 7:57 p.m. after a move to do so was made by Jim Foss, seconded by Ed Ruszkowski and approved by the Board.
