HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOMMUNITY SERVICES - 01/21/1999 - COMMUNITY SERVICES MINUTES • ELK GROVE VILLAGE COMMUNITY SERVICE BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING MINUTES Thursday, January 21, 1999 Conference Room C-Lower Level Municipal Building Board Members Present: Board Members Absent: Nancy Czamik Mary Cortes Anne Feichter Jim Foss Mary Hale Ruth Guest Alva Kreutzer Paul Klevinsky Sal Pace Dick Scholten Mary Paliganoff Peg Vallillo Ed Ruszkowski Staff Absent: Beth Madden Call to Order: Alva Kreutzer, Chairperson, called the meeting to order at 7:04 p.m. Action Items: None Agency Presentation: Jim Arey from the Elk Grove High School Public Service Practicum program presented information on the program. Chairperson's Report: Alva attended the December 9th Pathways for Prevention Advisory Board meeting. Chairman, Ron Pavlock reviewed the brochure regarding parental responsibility. The MultkCultural guide was distributed in October. Over 1,000 was sent to communities, hospitals,schools and service providers. A Task Force has been formed to provide a vehicle for protecting our kids on-line. The Task Force will compile information together with police departments, parent groups and schools. Coordinator's Report: Report in Board packets. Committee Reports: Elk Grove Community Spirit Award Committee: Given by Mary Hale Awards were given out to Jim Arey and Sissy Clarbour. Budget Committee: The Committee met in December and approved the 1999-2000 budget. CSB Minutes Page two New Business: Volunteer Recognition Committee: Ne)d meeting will be on April 16, 1999. Web Page Committee: The following board members are on this committee: Dick Scholten, Paul Klevinsky and Sal Pace. Old Business: None Community Issues: None Community Service Board Member Reports: There were no reports. The minutes were unanimously approved following a motion by Sal Pace, seconded by Anne Feichter. Agency Presentation: No report. Chairperson's Report: No report. Coordinator's Report: Report in Board packets. September 18`" 1999 is the tentative date for the Paint-a-thon. The Community Service Department budget was given to members. Committee Reports: Elk Grove Community Spirit Award Committee: Given by Beth Madden Recent award recipients are Phil Barry, Tom Walters, and William Healy. Volunteer Committee: Given by Anne Feichter The Committee met earlier today and set the agenda for the remaining year. Service organizations will be highlighted on Channel 5, in the Library and in the village newsletter. CSB Minutes Page two New Business: Cook County Sheriffs Senior Medal of Honor: The Board decided to nominate Bill Shannon for the recognition award. National Volunteer Week: Given by Alva Kreutzer Alva suggested that the village recognize volunteer organizations during National Volunteer Week. She thought this could be done at a Board of Trustee meeting. Old Business: Elk Grove Village Clean-Up Day: Given by Beth Madden At this time, this issue will be taken off agenda as other organizations conduct individual clean- up activities. Property Maintenance Directory: Given by Beth Madden Information regarding how to find a contractor will be put in the Senior Handbook. Anne Feichter suggested that the information also be included in the village newsletter. Volunteer Recognition Committee: The committee will meet on March 3rd at 6:00 p.m. ® Web Pace Committee: The committee will meet next month to begin to establish how the Board will be represented on the Village's web page. Workforce Development Council Scholarship Committee: Given by Beth Madden There is approximately $1000 now available for scholarships. Beth will begin to advertise for applicants. Trustee Liaison Report: None Community Service Board Member Reports: Mary Cortes announced that the Police Department will hold a seminar on protecting kids on- line. Mary Cortes also asked if other Board members felt the Board could meet less often during the year.
