HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOMMUNITY SERVICES - 04/15/1999 - COMMUNITY SERVICES MINUTES ELK GRIVE VILLAGE COMMUNITY SERVICE BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING MINUTES Thursday, April 15, 199 Conference Room C—Lower Level Municipal Building Board Members Present: Board Members Absent: Nancy Czarnik Mary Cortes Anne Feichter Ruth Guest Jim Foss Paul Klevinsky Mary Hale Alva Kreutzer Staff Present: Sal Pace Beth Madden Mary Paliganoff Ed Ruszkowski Guests Present: Dick Scholten none Peg Valillo Call to Order: Alve Kreutzer, Chairperson, called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Action Items: There was one correction to the minutes of the March meeting. Nancy Czarnik and Dick Scholten were present at the meeting. The Board unanimously approved the corrrected minutes following a motion by Peg Valillo and a second by Dick Scholten. Agency Presentation: None Chairperson's Report: None Coordinator's Report: Beth mentioned the Senior Celebration Day, scheduled for May 12, at the Randhurst Shopping Center, and passed out a flyer on the event. She also mentioned another event geared to seniors, the Jsilver Images Film Festival, scheduled for Tuesday, April 29 at 10:00 a.m., and passed out a flyer on the festival. Beth also asked to change the format of her monthly report to the Board. She suggested that it be done in the form of a comment or explanation after any activity or meeting she has listed on her monthly calendar of activities. ® Committee Reports: Elk Grove Community Spirit Award Committee: Given by Mary Hale ® Channel 6 has taped the award recipients to air through the month of August. The next committee meeting will be May 5. The committee plans to take the summer off, scheduling the following meeting in the fall. Mary Hale stated that there is still a need for more applicants the Spirit Award. Mary Paliganoff asked that the winners be announced at the Community Service Board meetings, in addition to their announcement at the Village Board meetings. Nominating Committee: Given by Jim Foss As there were only three candidates for the three offices, a motion for a voice vote was made by Many Paliganoff and seconded by Nancy Czarnik. The motion passed and the slate of candidates were elected for a 1 year term. The officers are as follows: Chairperson Alva Kreutzer Vice Chair Jim Foss Secretary Mary Cortes Web Committee: No Report The next scheduled meeting of the Web Committee is for May 20, at 6:30 p.m. Volunteer Committee: Given by Anne Feichter The committee has given to Rich Sagen of Channel 6 a list of organizations who have been contacted regarding promoting their organization and its volunteer needs and • programs. The committee plans to send a letter to organizations who have participated to try to evaluate the effectiveness. New Business: Nancy Czarnik read a letter from a 57 year old Elk Grove resident who offered to volunteer his time and woodworking skills to help needy or elderly residents to need inside carpentry work. The Board discussed how to handle this so as to eliminate any legal liability. Beth suggested that this be handled through organizations such as Save Our Seniors or the Elk Grove Township Daycare Center. Nancy Czarnik and Beth Madden will meet with the volunteer first and before proceeding further. Old Business: The Board brought up for further discussion whether to change the by-laws to reflect a requirement for 10 Community Service Board Meetings per year, rather than 11 as is currently in the by-laws. Each member in attendance was asked for comments or suggestions. The informal consensus of the Board was that 10 meetings would be acceptable to all, but there was a caution to leave the wording vague as to which month to drop. This matter will be brought up for a vote at next month's meeting. Trustee Liaison Report: No report ® Community Service Board Member Reports: None Announcements: Peg Valillo announced that the Harper/Festival Chorus will be performing at Harper College on Sunday, May 2, 1999 at 3:00 p.m. The next meeting of the Community Service Board will be Thursday, May 20, 1999 at 7:00 p.m. Adjournment The meeting was adjourned at 7:50 p.m. Respectfully submitted.
