HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOMMUNITY SERVICES - 11/18/1999 - COMMUNITY SERVICES MINUTES ELK GROVE VILLAGE COMMUNITY SERVICE BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING MINUTES Thursday, November 18, 1999 Conference Room C— Lower Level Municipal Building Board Members Present: Board Members Absent: Nancy Czarnik Jim Foss Anne Feichter Ruth Guest Mary Hale Paul Klevinsky Tony Kees Peg Vallillo Alva Kreutzer (Is` 10 minutes) Sal Pace Staff. Mary Paliganoff Beth Madden Dick Scholten Call to Order: Alva Kreutzer called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Action Items: The minutes were approved as given, after a motion by Dick Scholten and a second by Sal Pace. Mary Paligonoff later made a spelling correction. The Board does not have a regular meeting in December, Mary Hale volunteered to have a Christmas Party in place of the December meeting. At 7:10 p.m. Alva Kreutzer turned the meeting over to Mary Paliganoff. Chairperson's Report: None Coordinator's Report: Report in Board packets. Beth stated that 28 or so baskets would be distributed the Monday before Thanksgiving. Christmas baskets were almost all matched up. The salvation Bell Ringer campaign still had openings for volunteers. Beth mentioned that 40% of the money raised is funneled back to Elk Grove. Committee Reports: Elk Grove Community Spirit Award Committee: Given by Mazy Hale A Channel 6 shoot was just completed for three recepients. The first was Don Kearns, whose neighbors consider lum the nicest and kindest neighbor. The second was Cheryl Jukos of the Elk Grove Women's Club, who chaired the birthday bask for the Park District. The third was Marian Noehre, President of the Lioness Club, for her contributions to the community. Summer Activities Committee: Given by Mary Hale The next meeting will be sometime after January. The committee has had quite a few signups for the Farmers Market, which is scheduled for Wednesday mornings. They also have had signups for the Garage Sales. Volunteer Committee: Given by Anne Feichter Tapings are scheduled for a program of Seniors helping Seniors with their taxes, held in conjunction with the Sheila Ray Senior Center. Also scheduled is Happy Memories, a group of Elk Grove business and community employees who volunteer to have a Christmas party complete with holiday dinner, Santa, and presents for the less fortunate children in Elk Grove Township. New Business: The Community Service Department's budget is due December 9. The committee will meet sometime before that date to determine budgetary needs. Old Business: Make A Difference DU: Money is still coming in to the Community Service office from the PADS Walk. Between $5000 and $6000 should be raised. Eleven agencies received items on their Wish Lists. Some supplies are still coming in. Trustee Liaison Report: None, but Nancy Czarnik reminded the Board that the Holiday Tree Lighting will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Friday after Thanksgiving. Also regarding the Elk Grove Community Parade next summer, Steve Santowski will be on Channel 6 with hints on how parade participants can use lights whether walking, in a vehicle, or on a float. Also February 5, 2000 will be the Elk Grove Village Millenium Dinner Dance. Tickets will be $35 per person. Community Service Board Member Reports: None Announcements: The next regular meeting of the Community Service Board will be Thursday, January 20, 2000 at 7:00 p.m. Adjournment: Tony Kees motioned for an adjournment, which was seconded by Anne Feichter.
