HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOMMUNITY SERVICES - 07/20/2000 - COMMUNITY SERVICES MINUTES ELK GROVE VILLAGE COMMUNITY SERVICE BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING MINUTES Thursday, July 20, 2000 Conference Room C—Lower Level Municipal Building Board members Present: Board Members Absent: Nancy Czarnik Anne Feichter Jim Foss Ruth Guest Tony Kees Mary Hale Alva Kreutzer Sal Pace Mary Paliganoff Des Raftery Dick Scholten Peg Vallillo Call to Order: Jim Foss called the meeting to order at 7:OOp.m. Action Items: ® The minutes were approved, after a change regarding a sentence that had been included from a previous month's minutes. The motion was made by Sal Pace and seconded by Dick Scholten. Chairperson's Report: Jim Foss thanks Board members for the work on various committees. Jim brought up the idea to have the local Elk Grove movie theater have a"free day" geared to young children, similar to one he had attended in Barrington. Admission would be free, but incidentals, such as food and drink, would be at the regular charge. In Barrington, the shopping center businesses donated the $800 to cover the cost of the six week "free theater"program. The "free day" he attended was almost 100% full and it was during the morning of a weekday. Jim has discussed this with our village president, Craig Johnson, and the theater owner, Willis Johnson. There is some interest in doing this in Elk Grove next summer. Jim said he would follow up on this. Coordinator's Report: At this time there is no coordinator. Marty did provide a written report (not in our packets) which included her dates of vacation and personal medical days. Committee Reports: Elk Grove Community Spirit Award Committee: No Report. The next meeting is scheduled for August or September. Summer Activities Committee: No Report. Nancy Czarnik told the Board that the Farmers Market was doing well. The bread vendor and scissors sharpening vendor were doing very well. Better signage in the Pavilion has been requested from the Park District in order to drive more traffic to the Market area, which is partially hidden behind the parking lot. Volunteer Committee No Report Newcomers Committee The newly formed committee has not met yet. Personnel Committee Given by Sal Pace The committee formed to interview candidates for the position of Community Service Coordinator reviewed resumes, then interviewed six candidates, and recommended three to Gary Parrin, Village Manager, for his decision. Gary has been out of town and will return the end of July. New Business: .It was mentioned that Ruth Guest will be resigning from the Community Service Board, due to poor health. Nancy Czarnik had a letter from an boy scout asking for suggestions for a community service project in order to earn the Eagle Scout rank. Old Business: None Trustee Liason Report: Regarding the vacancies on the Community Service Board,Nancy Czarnik said the Craig Johnson, who makes the appointments, wanted to wait until the vacancies could be announced in the next Village Newsletter, so that any interested parties would be aware and could make application. Board Reports: Alva Kreutzer talked about the Duck Race, an Elk Grove Village Millenium event, would take place on Saturday morning, August 5. About 350 children had signed up. The first 50 ducks to cross the finish line would be winners. Alva asked for volunteers to help that day. Announcements: The next Community Service Board meeting will be at 7:00 pm on August 17, 2000. Adjournment: A motion for adjournment was made by Alva Kreutzer and seconded by Tony Kees..
