HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOMMUNITY SERVICES - 10/19/2000 - COMMUNITY SERVICES MINUTES ELK GROVE VILLAGE COMMUNITY SERVICE BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING MINUTES Thursday, October 19, 2000 Conference Room C—Lower Level Municipal Building Board members Present: Board Members Absent: Theresa Anesinis Dick Scholten Nancy Czarnik Anne Feichter Jim Foss Staff Present: Mary Hale Beverly Jaszczurowski Tony Kees Alva Kreutzer James Morrill Sal Pace Mary Paliganoff Desmond Raftery Peg Vallillo Call to Order: Jim Foss, Chairperson, called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Action Items: There was a correction in the minutes of the spelling of the two new Board members. The correct spelling is Theresa Anesinis and James Morrill. The corrected minutes were approved after a motion by Alva Kreutzer and a second by Anne Feichter. Coordinator's Report: Given by Beverly Jaszczurowski Community Service is a new application site for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program(LIHEAP). We have done two (2) applications in house already. We have appointments to go to the Senior Center and Village Grove Apartments to help seniors with the applications. Marty and I completed two (2)hours of training for LIHEAP. Community Food Drive will be held on October 23 —30. There are fliers to pass out and signs to hang. Senior Celebration Day is scheduled for May 16, 2001. Community Service is currently taking names of residents who will receive food baskets at Thanksgiving and Christmas. We have several residents and groups who have already adopted families and individuals. We have groups who have already signed up for Red Kettle Days. The newsletter listed the first three weekends in December. We are going to try to get volunteers for the last weekend as well. Committee Reports: Spirit Committee: Given by Mary Hale The Committee met on October 4, 2000. There were nine (9) nominees for the Spirit Award and all were approved. Six of them were televised by Channel 6 on October 2°a Volunteer Committee: Given by Anne Feichter The Committee sent out letters to all organizations that serve the needs of Elk Grove residents. Responses are coming in. Each month a separate organization will be featured as Volunteer Opportunity of the month by means of Channel 6, local newspapers, displays at the Library, Pavilion, the Senior Center and mention in the Village Newsletter. New Business: Tony Kees mentioned that the wording of the Community Service Board By-laws, ® Section 2, 10-1, seemed confusing. It states that the `Board members shall keep well informed...". A brief discussion followed with no action taken. Old Business: None Board Liaison Report: None Community Service Member Reports: Anne Feichter reported on the Sister City visitation by 26 people from Termini Imerese, Sicily. It was a wonderful week, packed with activities, from participation in the Columbus Day Parade to a tour of Elk Grove Village government offices, business community, the official signing of the Sister City agreement at the Village Board meeting to the fundraising dinner dance attended by close to 1,200 people at the Avalon Banquets. Announcements: Nancy Czarnik brought up our Christmas meeting/party and suggested that the date be changed to Tuesday, December 12`n The next Community Service Board meeting will be at 7:00 p.m. on January 18, 2001. • • Adiournment: A motion for adjournment was made by Anne Feichter and seconded by James Morrill.
