Coordinator's Report: Given by Beverly Jaszczuroski
Beverly reported on her work involving LIHEAP and CLEAR, programs from
Commonwealth Edison to provide assistance for low income individuals or families that
have difficulty keeping up with their electric bills. For those that qualify and are in
arrears with their electric bill, the participants must pay one third of the bill, Com Ed pays
one third, and LIHEAP pays one third.
Bev also reported on the proposed Senior Advisory Council. A prelinimary meeting was
held with professionals from various organizations serving seniors to ascertain whether or
not to proceed.
Bev reported that she has been working on budgets for United Way, as she is on their
Board.
Volunteer Committee:
Bev received information on a new agency serving Elk Grove residents. It is called
Escorted Transportation Service (ETS). They are looking for volunteers as well as
promotion of this service to the community. They will be the Volunteer Opportunity of
the Month for February and will be promoted on Channel 6, in the church bulletins,
newspapers, bulletin boards at the library, senior centers, and at the Pavilion.
Spirit Committee:
Bev reported that the committee has received four more applications since the beginning
of the year. The committee is looking for some new sponsors and to renew existing
sponsorships ($500 to sponsor). Bev is applying for the Governors Award on behalf of
the Spirit Committee.
New Business:
Des Rafftery reported that he would like to work on focusing on the family, particularly
families in crises. He has already started drawing different agencies together to see if
anything is missing in terms of help in this area. He asked the Board for ideas or
suggestions. Des also had a second area of concern in terms—domestic violence—and
would like to set up a support group for domestic violence survivors. Alva suggested that
he put together a proposal or vision and present it to the Board.
Old Business:
Alva asked about the Elk Grove Village web page and stated that more could be on it
regarding Community Service programs available. Nothing seems to have been done in
months.
Tony Kees brought up the Farmers Market and suggested the location be moving more
east and closer to the berm. That might increase visibility. The Farmers Market is now
controlled by the Park District.
® Bev said that the Community Service budget committee met and the budget was turned in
to Gary Parrin, who approved the 3% increase. It now awaits approval by the Village
Board.
Trustee Report:
No report except to announce that Nancy Czarnik and Rich Keyworth were taping a
Koffee Klatch on the upcoming Elk Grove Night Parade.

Coordinator's Repots: Given by Beverly Jaszczurowski
Beverly's full report is in the packet. She mentioned that Village Voices, consisting of
choir members from 7 churches, would be performing on February 25 at 3 pm at Elk
Grove High School. Although the concert is free, a freewill donation is suggested.
Beverly also reported that the office is taking applications for houses to be painted during
the Paint-a-thon on September 8`h.
Regarding the Village webpage, Peter Vadopalas is putting community service issues and
announcements on the Elk Grove Events page. This will also include helpful information
for new residents.
Bev also reported that she and Mary Hale would attend a seminar in Chicago on
organizing committees, boards, etc.
Summer Activities Committee:
Nancy Czarnik said that the committee is meeting on Monday evenings at 7 pm. She met
with the Park District. There have been personnel changes and it is hoped that the
Farmers Market will be more user-friendly and will have more and varied vendors. This
summer the Farmers Market will start at 7 am, an hour earlier than last year, and will go
until 1 pm.
• Volunteer Committee:
Anne Feichter reported that February's Volunteer Opportunity is Escorted Transportation
Service (ETS) sponsored by the Lutheran Services. The organization was promoted on
Channel 6, in the church bulletins, newspapers, and bulletin boards at the library and
senior center. The March Volunteer Opportunity will be Big Brother/Big Sister and April
will be the American Cancer Society.
Spirit Committee:
Nancy Czarnik reported for Mary Hale who was at a Channel 6 TV shoot. Several Spirit
Award recipients were being honored and were being featured on channel 6. Among the
recipients were someone who had collected socks for the needy, the couple who donated
the Christmas tree for Elk Grove Village, a woman who have been taking care of a
bedridden man, a grandmother caring for a very ill grandchild, and to Jarosch bakery for
all their donations.
The Spirit Committee is asking for volunteers to serve on the committee and will be
seeking new sponsors.
New Business:
Bev said that letters from her office have gone out to agencies regarding nominations for
the Volunteer of the Year Award, which is given out at the annual Village Dinner.
Responses are needed by March 2.
Bev also stated that she had received a letter on Monday regarding the Sheriffs Medal of
Honor Award and the recipient's name was due on Friday. The Board determined that
since there is virtually only 1 day to name a recipient, Bev would handle it.
Bev also said that the Work Force Development Scholarship Fund did not pay out the
scholarship money to the two recipients until January 26`h. The scholarship was awarded
in April and the monies were to be paid directly to the school where the recipient has
registered for classes. The money was there, but it just did not get distributed.
Representation to the Governing Board would be made regarding administration of this
Fund.
