HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOMMUNITY SERVICES - 10/18/2001 - COMMUNITY SERVICES MINUTES ELK GROVE VILLAGE COMMUNITY SERVICE BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING MINUTES Thursday, October 18, 2001 Conference Room C - Lower Level Municipal Building Board Members Present: Board Members Absent: Teresa Anesinis Stacey Bechtold Nancy Czarnik Fred Hossfeld Anne Feichter Desmond Raftery Jim Foss Mary Hale Staff Present: Tony Kees Beverly Jaszczurowski James Morrill Mary Paliganoff Beth Thompson Peg Vallillo Call to Order: Jim Foss, president, called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. ® Action Items: The minutes from the September 20, 2001 meeting were approved after a motion by Jim Morrill and a second by Beth Thopmson. Coordinator's Report: Given by Beverly Jaszczurowski Beverly's full report is included in the packet. Beverly provided information about the display of t-shirts and silhouettes for domestic violence awareness in the lobby of the Municipal Building. Last night at a Town Meeting speakers from the Children's Advocacy Center,Northwest CASA,the Elk Grove Village Police Department and the Community Service office provided valuable information about how children are affected by violence. Committee Reports: Farmer's Market: Given by Tony Kees Tony reminded the Board that October 24 is the last day for the Farmer's Market this year. There was a discussion of ways to improve the Farmer's Market next year, including ways to provide water, coffee or hot chocolate to the customers and vendors. Volunteer Committee: Given by Anne Feichter Northwest CASA will be sponsored on Channel 6 in October. During the month of November Channel 6 will sponsor PADS and Community Service. Pet therapy will be the • feature during December. Volunteer Committee members will assist with holiday baskets and Salvation Army bell ringing during the holiday season. rSpirit Committee: Given by Jim Morrill Jim Morrill and Nancy Czamik attended the last meeting of the Spirit Committee. Procedures for a Teen Spirit Award are being developed. The Spirit Committee will present one adult Spirit award on Koffee Klatch and one youth Spirit award on Teen Koffee Klatch. Web Committee: Given by Beverly Jaszczurowski& Jim Morrill No new business. Assistant Village Manager Ray Rummel is reviewing the information. MADD Committee: Given by Beth Thompson Saturday, October 27 is the date for the Walk for WINGS Plenty of volunteers are available to provide assistance. State Senator Wendell Jones will speak at this event, along with Village Trustee Jim Petrie. Mayor Craig Johnson will not be able to attend. New Business: Beverly Jaszczurowski distributed evaluation forms. Members of the Personnel Committee will use these forms to review Beverly's job performance. Bylaws of the Community Service Board are being updated by Stacey Bechtold,Mary Pafiganoff and Beth Thompson. Old Business: None. Trustee Report: Given by Nancy Czarnik Nancy provided information about the Blood Drive scheduled for Saturday,November 3 at the Pavilion. During the month of November 4u shots will be provided at several locations in Elk Grove Village, including the Municipal Building and the Senior Center. Board Members Report: None. Announcement: The next Community Service Board meeting will be at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday,November 15, 2001 in Conference Room C in the Lower Level of the Municipal Building (Village Hall). The December meeting of the Community Service Board will be at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 20, 2001 at Nancy Czarnik's house. Coordinator's Report: Given by Beverly Jaszczurowski Beverly's full report is included in the packet. LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program) has started the winter program to help low income residents with their heating bills. The income guidelines for this financial assistance have been changed. The Community Service office processes LIHEAP applications for village residents. Thanksgiving baskets for 40 families will be distributed on Monday, November 19. Donors provide the Thanksgiving meal for a family, including the turkey and trimmings. Kiwanis donated $250 for Thanksgiving. Committee Reports: Farmer's Market: Given by Mary Hale Mary reported that the Elk Grove Park District distributed plaques to Teresa Anesinis, Nancy Czarnik, Mary Hale and Tony Kees at the Park District Board meeting on November 8, in recognition of their service as a Farmer's Market volunteer. Volunteer Committee: Given by Beverly Jaszczurowski Wellness by Design, a program of seniors volunteering to help seniors, will be promoted on Channel 6 for the volunteer opportunity during the month of December. Pet therapy, or another program involving pets, will be featured in January. Northwest Special ® Recreation Association is being considered for a future month. Spirit Committee: Given by Jim Morrill The November 14 meeting was rescheduled for December 5. Web Committee: Given by Beverly Jaszczurowski Assistant Village Manager Ray Rummel notified Beverly that the Community Service Board web site will be completed after Thanksgiving. MADD Committee: Given by Beth Thompson The Walk for WINGS on October 27 raised $1175.00. Turnout was lower than anticipated. Numerous volunteers assisted with this event. Bylaws Committee: Given by Beverly Jaszczurowski This committee is composed of Stacey Bechtold, Mary Paliganoff and Beth Thompson. They will schedule a meeting to update the bylaws of the Community Service Board. New Business: Arrangements for the December 20 gathering were discussed. Old Business: The Community Service Board retreat, tentatively proposed as a 1/2 day seminar, has been canceled due to budget considerations. It was suggested that a small portion of each Board meeting could be used to discuss Board development issues. Trustee Report: Given by Nancy Czarnik The tree lighting ceremony is scheduled for Friday, November 23. Coffee and hot chocolate will be provided by Tasty Catering. The Farmer's Market is finished for 2001. Next year it will start two weeks earlier and end two weeks earlier than the 2001 schedule. Board Members Report: None. Announcement: The next Community Service Board gathering will be at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 21, 2001 at Nancy Czarnik's house. The next Community Service Board meeting will be at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 17, 2002 in Conference Room C in the Lower Level of the Municipal Building (Village Hall).
