MEETING MINUTES

Call to Order:
Jim Foss, chairperson, called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m.
Action Items:
• The minutes from the January 17, 2002 meeting were approved after a motion by Des
Raftery and a second by Nancy Czarnik.
Coordinator's Report: Given by Jim Foss
In Beverly's absence, Marty Vela submitted a full report and is included in the packet.
Friends Animal Assisted Therapy is the volunteer opportunity for the month of February.
Wellness by Design is the opportunity for March. The volunteer recognition committee
agreed on the recommendation of William Healy for the Sheriffs Senior Medal of Honor
award ceremony on April 17 at the Cultural Center in Chicago. Ten families are on the list
to receive Easter food baskets. These will be distributed on March 28. Letters were sent
to clients of the food pantry. Community Service is seeking more people to adopt families
for Easter baskets.

Volunteer Committee:

Community Spirit Committee: Given by Jim Morrill
The committee met on February 7 and continued to discuss the youth spirit award. Five
names have been approved for the award. These award winners will appear on Teen
Koffee Klatch. The next meeting will be the fust Thursday in March.

Bylaws Committee:
No report.
New Business:
Des Raftery discussed the need for Spanish announcements or programming on Channel 6
to reach the Hispanic population of Elk Grove Village with information about services
provided by Community Service and the Police Department. After discussion the board
voted to approve Des investigating this option with Channel 6. One possibility is a
program during the month of October, Domestic Violence Awareness month.

Trustee Report: Given by Nancy Czarnik
The Taste of Elk Grove is scheduled for the evening of Thursday, March 21. Maryville
Academy donated over 20 cases of Taffy Apples on February 8. Nancy and Beverly
distributed 10 cases to the day care center, 8 cases to the food pantry and the remaining
cases went to the township and PADS.
Board Members Report:
The Farmers Market committee for 2002 will include Teresa Anesinis, Nancy Czarnik,
Mary Hale and Tony Kees. This year the dates for the Market will be Wednesday, June
12 through Wednesday, October 9. The first committee meeting was on Monday,
February 18.
Des Raftery is beginning a support group for survivors of domestic violence. The group,
facilitated by Des and an intern from the Children's Advocacy Center, will meet on
Wednesday nights. There will be an educational component to the meetings, in addition to
people speaking of their experiences.
Announcement:
The next Community Service Board meeting will be at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March
20, 2002 in Conference Room A in the Lower Level of the Municipal Building (Village
Hall).

A motion for adjournment was made by Nancy Czarnik and seconded by Tony Kees. The
meeting was adjourned at 7:53 p.m.
