Call to Order:
® Mary Hale, president, called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
Action Items•
The minutes from the April 17, 2002 meeting were reviewed. Anne Feichter noted the
omission of.two names.from.the Volunteer Committee report. The.report.should read
"Anne Feichter, Mary Hale, Mary Paliganoff, Beth Thompson and Peg Vallillo will
schedule a.meeting soon." .The minutes were approved, as amended, after a motion by
Anne Feichter and a second by Jim Foss.
.Special Staff Report: Given by Mike Cavallini
Village Ordinance No. 2899, approved on June 18, 2002 created the Department of
Health and Community Services, combining Health Services and Community Services.
The department will "supervise and oversee the enforcement of regulations relating to
public health and community services. The Department shall consist of the Director of
Health and Community Services and such other positions as established by the Mayor and
_Board of Trustees."
Village Ordinance No. 2900, approved on June 18, 2002 amended the Position
Classification and Salary Plan for the Village of Elk Grove Village. The position of Health
Services Coordinator was changed to Director of Health and Community Services. The
Salary Plan was amended to indicate the salary range for the position of Community
40 Services Coordinator and the position of Director of Health and Community Services.
Mike Cavallini, Director of Health and Community Services and staff liaison to the
Community Service Board, has been with the Village for 25 years. Over 100 resumes
have been received for the position of Community Service Coordinator. The residency
requirement has been removed because this is now a supervisory position. The Personnel
Committee of the Community Service Board will interview several candidates the end of
July. After this initial review, Mike Cavallini and Village Manager Gary Parrin will review
.the final candidates.
Coordinator's.Report: Given by Mary Hale.
The full report prepared by Marty Vela-is included in the.packet. The food pantry will be
receiving 10 food pails from the organization Nourish the Children. Each pail contains
570.-meals of nutrient dense food,.with.a 5.year shelf life. The Cook County Housing
Authority has opened up their Public Housing Program. The open enrollment period runs
.through July 3-1,:2002. -Application,forms.are available_atthe Arlington.Heights Public
Library. Community Service was informed by the Salvation Army that, as of June 14,
2002, they can no longer use anyfunds.allocated-for spending in Fiscal Year 2002.
However, Community Service was given $1680.30 in funds raised during the 2001
Christmas Kettle Drive..-These funds can be.used until September 30, 2002.

There was no meeting in June or July. There are no nominations pending. Nomination
forms,will.be.supplied,to the.Libray..,and.the Pavilion.
Farmer's Market Committee: Given by Nancy Czarnik
There is,more.traffic.and.activity. The Farmer's Market is appealing-on Channel 6 this
month. There was newspaper coverage about the Market in the Daily Herald and the Elk
Grove Times newspapers today. The Service Club theme day is.August 7.
Personnel Committee: Given by Mary Hale
Please-refer to:the,Special-Staff Report.for.more.details..The:resumes.for•the;position of
Community Service Coordinator have been narrowed down from 106 to 7 or 8.
Volunteer..Committee: .Given by Anne Feichter
The committee held a meeting on Saturday. Volunteer activities for the following year
were established. These are: July, Community.Spirit Committee; August, Plant a Row for
the Hungry, September, Historical Society (Pioneer Days) and PADS (walk); October,
Domestic Violence Prevention Month;November, Salvation Army Red Kettle Drive and
the Presbyterian Church Food Drive; December, nothing scheduled yet; January, Manor
Care; February, Friends of the Library; March, Elk Grove-Village Jaycees; April, Rotary
® Club; May, VFW; June, Lions Club.

New Business:
There was a general discussion concerning selection of an event to sponsor for Make A
'Difference Day. Last year's event was a walk-for.WINGS. Planning for.this October
event should already be in progress. The MADD committee will meet to share ideas and
seleMan eventao sponsor.:Jim.-MorrilEwill.chair_this meeting.
Old Business:
w Des,Raftery is still working with AT&T to complete the cable program,for October
Domestic Violence Awareness month. The interview will be in English and Spanish. Des
is one of the presenters,at.a.Domestic Violence.seminar:at-Harper College in:August and
another at Oakton College in October. He is also investigating a program to recycle
cellular phones for victims of domestic violence. .These cell-phones are refurbished to
have one button to push for 911 only.
..Trustee Report:- Given by Nancy Czarnik
Village residents are more aware of the movie program. Many are attending the movie
and then visiting the Farmer's Market. The cinema-has a banner on the.marquee to
announce the$1.00 fee for the Wednesday morning movie.
® Board Members Report:
Mary Hale suggested a calendar should be included in the monthly report, listing all village
events.'This calendar would include events:atthe:library'(ice cream,social).and.the high
school (concerts) along with any other local-events. (Please note: Information about
events should,be forwarded to Teresa Anesinis for the calendar.)
Mike Cavallini distributed a copy of the items proposed for the August 2002 newsletter
distributed to all-Elk Grove Village.residents: •One of.the.items describes the FoodPantry
located at the Elk Grove Presbyterian Church. Volunteers are needed for two hours in the
afternoon and evenings. The F.00d'Pantry.also.has bins.for donations of clean clothes.
Announcement:
The next Community Service Board meeting will-be at 7 00 p:m.:on Thursday, August 15,
2002 in Conference Room C in the Lower Level of the Municipal Building (Village Hall).
