Des Raftery asked the Community Service Board to consider the creation of a volunteer group,
under the auspices of Community Service. Volunteers would visit someone who is ill, being a
companion for a brief time. They could also provide a brief respite for a caregiver during their
visit. People generally do better if someone is coming in to visit. This would require training for
the volunteers. Liability issues need to be researched.
Des Raftery informed the Community Service Board that no events are scheduled this year for
Domestic Violence Awareness Month. He hopes to get involved in other committees or events.
Des will appear on Channel 6 speaking about domestic violence during October.
