MEETING MINUTES
Thursday, July 17, 2003

Call to Order:
Jim Morrill, president, called the meeting to order at 7:01 p.m.
Action Items:
The minutes from the June meeting were approved after a motion by Jim Foss and a second by
Peg Vallillo.
Coordinator's Report: Given by Linda Blair
Linda Blair reported an upsurge in the use of the food pantry, with new people requesting the
Food Pantry while old customers fall off from Food Pantry usage. Community Service is
receiving many requests for information and referrals from handicapped individuals asking what
services are available from the Village. Community Service will be updating the directory of
handicapped services after completing research on this subject.
The Paint-a-Thou has five houses in the village this year. One of these is a house that was
included in the Paint-a-Thou last year but not completed. Reggie Morrison will be nominated for
a Community Spirit Award. He is an Elk Grove Village resident who collects outdated bakery
products from Dominick's and distributes them to the Elk Grove Village Day Care, the Senior
Center and the Village Grove Apartments.
Committee Reports:
Community Spirit Committee: Given by Jim Morrill
Channel 6 has possible shoots in August, but can't commit to any shoots. The teenagers
nominated for an award several months ago still have not received their award. Cindy Hastings
and Nancy Czarnik will discuss future plans for this committee.
Farmer's Market Committee: Given by Nancy Czarnik
Cindy Sortino, with the Elk Grove Park District, is doing an excellent job getting vendors for the
Market. The new location this year is really good. This year some other items besides fruits and
vegetables are available to attract people to the Market. These items include flowers, garden
stakes and jewelry. Theme Days continue with Chamber Day on July 23 and Service Day on
August 13. Linda Blair and Mike Tuozzo will represent Community Service at the Market on
Service Day.
New Business:
There was a general brainstorming discussion about possible projects for the October 25`h Make A
Difference Day (MADD) event. The Community Service Board will have a personal hygiene and
paper goods collection to benefit PADS and (lie Food Pantry. Peg Vallillo and Jim Foss will
assist with the organization of this event.
Old Business:
Linda Blair met with Village Manager Gary Partin to discuss plans for the Community Service
Suggestion Box. This project needs Village approval before it can proceed. Linda Blair will
prepare a written description of this plan. Mike Tuozzo will produce a prototype of the card.
Trustee Report:
Village Mayor Craig Johnson is forming a committee to plan celebrations for the 50" anniversary
of the village. Work will begin later this year, probably in September. Anyone interested in
. participating on this committee should contact Nancy Czarnik or Craig Johnson.
The Community Spirit effort won the Home Town Governor's Award two years ago. The Police
department won the award this year for Character Counts. Community Service will try to arrange
for the hanging of the sign for the Community Spirit Governor's Award.

Announcement
The next Community Service Board meeting will be at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 21, 2003
in Conference Room C in the Lower Level of the Municipal Building (Village Hall). This will be
a short meeting, discussing MADD and the Suggestion Box only.

A motion for adjournment was made by Mary Paliganoff and seconded by Nancy Czarnik. The
meeting was adjourned at 7:54 p.m.
