HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOMMUNITY SERVICES - 09/10/2003 - COMMUNITY SERVICES MINUTES ELK GROVE VILLAGE COMMUNITY SERVICE BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING MINUTES Wednesday, September 10, 2003 Conference Room, Community Service Office, Municipal Building Board Members Present: Board Members Absent: Teresa Anesinis Stacey Bechtold Nancy Czarnik Jim Foss Anne Feichter Fred Hossfeld James Morrill Mary Paliganoff Mike Tuozzo Desmond Raftery Peg Vallillo Visitor Present: Staff Present: Daly Curatti - Linda Blair Alexian Brothers Medical Center Michael Cavallini Special Note: The Community Service Board meeting scheduled for Thursday, August 21, 2003 was cancelled. This August meeting was rescheduled for Wednesday, September 10, to discuss Make A Difference Day and the Community Suggestion Box. Call to Order: Jim Morrill, president, called the meeting to order at 7:06 p.m. Action Items: The minutes from the July meeting were approved after a motion by Nancy Czarnik and a second by Jim Morrill. Coordinator's Report: Given by Linda Blair Linda Blair reported that Tony Kees has resigned from the Community Service Board, effective immediately. The food pantry needs donations. PADS is working on a new concept, providing a comprehensive site in the Northwest suburbs that can offer a tiered approach from PADS to independent living arrangements. They already have approval from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). New Business: Community Spirit Committee: The three teenagers nominated for an award several months ago have received their award. Several new award recipients are lined up already. The next village newsletter will have a nomination form for the Community Spirit Award. AML Make A Difference Day (MADD) Committee: The MADD project for 2003 will be a paper drive. The scheduled date is Saturday, October 25. Committee members Anne Feichter, Jim Morrill, Mike Tuozzo and Peg Vallillo will meet on Thursday, September 17 to organize this event. Linda Blair will make arrangements with Channel 6 to publicize this paper drive. Alexian Brothers will assist with this MADD project. The committee is considering using students at Stevenson and other schools for the collection. It is possible there will be collection boxes at Stevenson School, Village Hall and the Library. These details will be finalized at the Committee meeting on September 17. Information will be updated on the MADD website and the Elk Grove Village website. Daly Curatti will arrange for publicity at the hospital and the Alexian Brothers Hospital Network. Community Suggestion Box: There was a general discussion of the Community Suggestion Box. This included a review of the proposed text for the Suggestion Box and Suggestion Card prepared by the Village Manager's office. The final draft of the text will be presented to Village Manager Gary Parrin. Announcement: The next Community Service Board meeting will be at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 16, 2003 in Conference Room C in the Lower Level of the Municipal Building (Village Hall).
