Call to Order:

Action Items:
The minutes from the September meeting were approved after a motion by Peg Vallillo and a
second by Jim Foss.
Community Service Board members welcomed Ryan Bookler, appointed to the Board at the
October Village Board meeting. Ryan has lived in Elk Grove Village his entire life. He teaches
fifth grade in Addison. He is attending school for a Masters in Administration degree.
Coordinator's Report: Given by Linda Blair
Linda Blair reported that August was a record month for the amount of assistance provided to Elk
Grove Village residents. The Community Service office used more than half the Salvation Army
money available. Food pantry usage has increased across the board. Letters will be sent to
request donors for the Adopt A Family program for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Last year the
program was expanded to include single seniors from Village Grove and Landmeier Station. This
year the program will target residents who don't come forward on a regular basis, but can still use
assistance.
The next Blood Drive is scheduled for November 1. Participation is down, both nationally and
within the village. More locations are having their own blood drives now. Participation in the
village blood drive has fallen from 120 to 70 or 80. Community Service has a record of anyone
from Elk Grove Village that contributes blood in the area, even outside Elk Grove Village.
Make A Difference Day (MADD) Committee
The MADD project for 2003 is scheduled for Saturday, October 25. Committee members will
collect paper products and distribute them to local agencies.
• Community Spirit Committee
The three teenagers nominated for an award several months ago have taped a segment for
Channel 6. Advantage Bank will donate several $100 savings bonds for the Youth Awards.
Community Sueeestion Box
The Community Suggestion Box was discussed at the Committee of the Whole meeting in
October. The Village Board approved the Suggestion Box with some final revisions. Boxes will
be placed in Village Hall, the Pavilion, the Library and the Senior Center. Linda Blair read a letter
from Board member Mike Tuozzo. In the letter Mike expressed concern that the intended results
would not be achieved as a result of the change of focus from suggestions to projects. The
original intention of the Community Suggestion Box was to offer residents the opportunity to
provide input, through suggestions, on how the village could better serve them. There was a
motion by Peg Vallillo and Jim Foss, with a second by Mary Paliganoff, to support the thoughts
expressed in Mike's letter.
Announcement
The next Community Service Board meeting will be at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 20,
2003 in Conference Room C in the Lower Level of the Municipal Building (Village Hall).
Adiournment:
A motion for adjournment was made by Mary Paliganoff and seconded by Jim Foss. The meeting
was adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
