HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOMMUNITY SERVICES - 11/20/2003 - COMMUNITY SERVICES MINUTES ® ELK GROVE VILLAGE COMMUNITY SERVICE BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING MINUTES Thursday, November 20, 2003 Conference Room C - Lower Level, Municipal Building Board Members Present: Board Members Absent: Teresa Anesinis Anne Feichter Ryan Bookler Jim Foss Nancy Czarnik Fred Hossfeld Mary Paliganoff James Morrill Mike Tuozzo Desmond Raftery Peg Vallillo Staff Present Linda Blair Call to Order: Linda Blair, Community Service Coordinator, called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. Action Items: ® The minutes from the October meeting were reviewed. They will be approved at the January meeting, because there was no quorum present at the November meeting. Coordinator's Report: Given by Linda Blair Linda Blair reported the Community Service office used $1100.00 in Salvation Army funds in one month. Elk Grove Village received $11, 888.00 for the year. The remaining balance is $5000.00. Food pantry usage has skyrocketed in the last two months. Thanksgiving baskets will be distributed to 30 families and 8 seniors. Bell ringing will be scheduled on 3 weekends this year, on Friday and Saturday, December 5, 6, 12, 13, 19 and 20. The Mission Statement of the Community Service Board was reviewed by Jim Morrill and Linda Blair. It will be reviewed by the Board members at the January meeting. The need to review the Community Service Board By-laws will be discussed at the January meeting. The By-laws Committee is a standing committee of the Community Service Board. There will be a holiday party at Peg Vallillo's home on December 18. Make A Difference Day (MADD) Committee: The MADD paper drive on Saturday, October 25 was a good effort. Alexian Brothers staff brought boxes of donations collected at the hospital.. Nothing was collected at the remote locations around the village. One suggestion for next year's project is to collect and distribute children's car seats. Perhaps the Elk Grove Village police can check if these seats are installed and fastened properly in the vehicles of village residents. Community Suggestion Box: The Community Suggestion Box should be in Village Hall, the Pavilion, the Public Library and the Senior Center by mid-December. Mike Tuozzo will gather the completed suggestion cards from each location. Trustee Report: Given by Nancy Czarnik The 5& anniversary committee, planning for the 501h anniversary of Elk Grove Village, will meet in January. There will be many subcommittees, planning something for every month. Community Spirit Committee: No report. Announcement: The next Community Service Board meeting will be at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 15, 2004 in Conference Room C in the Lower Level of the Municipal Building (Village Hall).
