HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOMMUNITY SERVICES - 08/19/2004 - COMMUNITY SERVICES MINUTES ELK GROVE VILLAGE COMMUNITY SERVICE BOARD OF DIRETORS MEETING MINUTES Thursday, August 19, 2004 Conference Room C— Lower Level, Municipal Building Board Members Present: Board Members Absent: Nancy Czarnik, Trustee Liaison Teresa Anesinis James Morrill, President Mike Tuozzo, Vice President Ryan Bookler, Secretary Anne Feichter Staff Present: Jim Foss Linda Blair, Coordinator Georgia Landt Michael Cavallini, Director Mary Paliganoff Desmond Raftery Peg Vallillo Call to Order: James Morrill, President, called the meeting to order at 7:06 p.m. Action Items: The minutes from the July 15, 2004 meeting were approved after a motion by Nancy Czarnik and a second by Jim Foss. Coordinator's Report: Given by Linda Blair There continues to be a large need by residents for utility bills to be paid. The 2004-2005 Salvation Army budget is $13,339.36. Linda sent 155 phones to an organization called Charitable Recycling for the Cell Phone Program. The Community Service office has an ongoing collection of cell phones. See the July minutes for more information. New Business: The Board welcomed Georgia Landt as a member of the EGV Community Service Board. Make a Difference Day on Saturday, October 23`d, was brought up again. President Morrill suggested some MADD activities that include, but are not limited to, a school supply drive, trash clean-up, collection for the troops, a Halloween party, leaf collection, and car wash. He thought that people could contribute money to a worthy cause for any MADD activities. CSB Minutes Page two Linda mentioned that possible donations could be given to WINGS, which is a domestic violence shelter for women. October is Domestic Violence month. Nancy suggested raising money for the EG Housing Fund. Board members agreed that donations could be used for more than one cause. The Make a Difference Day Committee will meet on Wednesday, August 25"', at 4:00 p.m. in the Elk Grove Community Service office. The committee will discuss the suggestions made by President Morrill for MADD and come up with other ideas. The committee will help prepare for the Channel 6 Commercial, which will be given by Mike. Listed below are some of the questions that Mike will be asked: What is MADD? When is MADD? Is there one big event that the residents of Elk Grove can participate in on"Make a Difference Day?" Do you have suggestions of things for residents to do on this national day of doing good? What is the history of MADD? President Morrill brought up the idea of having residents leave their lights on for one night next year. Committee Reports: Suggestion Box: Given by Mike Tuozzo Mike read suggestions gathered from the different box locations throughout the Village. He will continue to respond to the cards or give them to the appropriate department. Trustee Liaison Report: Given by Trustee Nancy Czarnik There will be an Anniversary Committee meeting on September 27"' at 6:30 p.m. Announcements: Anne Feichter, who is on the Sister City Committee, announced that there will be a delegation from Italy coming on October 15`h. There will be a dinner fundraiser at the Belveder Banquet Hall. The cost is $60 per person if reservations are made by September ls`. After that date, the cost is $70. The next Community Service Board meeting will be on Thursday, September 1601, 2004, at 7:00 p.m. in Room"C" at the Village Hall.
