Coordinator's Report: Given by Linda Blair Linda noted that there are more renters seeking the services of the Community Service Office. The busy time of year for Community Service begins in the fall. Community Service has the Adopt a Family for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter. New Business: Committee Reports: Suggestion Box: Given by Mike Tuozzo There was one comment in the Library box. The person suggested an amnesty period that would allow patrons to bring in canned or other non-perishable goods and winter clothing from Sunday, October 17 through Saturday, October 23 and not pay any fines for over due books. Donated materials collected to neighborhood Pads or Food Pantry. There are concerns with the design of the box at the Pavilion ... -Easy to tip over -Heavy and can therefore hurt someone ® -Edges are sharp A new plastic suggestion box has been obtained for the Pavilion to address these safety concerns. Also, the location of the new box is improved. The suggestion box will be back up in the Senior Center. Old Business: Linda sent out letters to community members seeking volunteers or projects for Make a Difference Day (MDD). There was little response to the letters, but we agreed that there is still plenty of time with MDD still a month away. The MDD Committee has agreed that we should act as more of an organization to provide ideas to people who want to partake in a MDD project. We are considering adopting a stretch of Arlington Heights Road that needs to be cleaned up. However, the land is private property, so we would have to seek the approval of homeowners. Mike did air the MDD Commercial for 6 minutes. He did announce the date, kids closet program, yard clean-up, car wash, and shopping for seniors. Mike also mentioned WINGS. There were over 3 million volunteers last year for MDD. Anne suggested advertising MDD on the village sign. . Trustee Liaison Report: Given by Trustee Nancy Czarnik There were 33 houses painted throughout the suburbs and over 600 volunteers participated for the Paint-A-Thon. Motorola contributed a significant amount of employees. Tasty Dawg donated lunch to some of the volunteers. Nancy mentioned an article about two nine-year-old girls who raised $700.00 to help a handicapped student. The theme of next year's Community Parade is "A Night at the Circus". The 50th Anniversary Committee meeting will be on September 27, at 6:30 p.m. Flu clinic will be 3 days a week starting on 11/1/04 and ending on 11/16/04 for a cost of $15. Mike will have more information at the next meeting. Announcements: Antique Appraisal from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Hattendorf Center on October 2, 2004.
