Coordinator's Report: Given by Linda Blair The Community Service Office had a successful Christmas season. Thirty-eight families were served for the Adopt-a-Family program. Fourteen seniors were adopted through DC Imports. DC Imports is a shipping company on Devon Avenue that has adopted our senior clients for the past three Christmas Holidays. There were more people willing to adopt-a-family than clients this year. The Salvation Army Bellringing Campaign collected $2,742.95 of which the Community Service office will include in the Salvation Army Service Unit fund. There was a mix up with not being able to ring the bell in front of the store sites for the full three weeks. The Bellringing Campaign collected for two weekends only. Happy Memories is the Christmas Party put on by Midaco Corp. They are a company in Elk Grove that sponsored a Christmas Party. Community Service extended the invitation to fifteen (15) Elk Grove needy families who received several gifts and food. The event was held at the Hattendorf Center. The Community Service Board adopted a family for the Christmas Holiday. The Board ® was able to purchase several gifts and food, with the donated $180.00 collected. ® CSB Minutes Page two Interfaith Council will hold a fundraiser on February 27`h, which is the last Sunday of the month. This will be the only fundraiser for the Elk Grove Housing Fund. New Business: Vice President Tuozzo brought up the idea for goals for 2005. Des Raftery brought up the idea of assisting people who are unemployed. It's a program that the Community Service Office and Social Service Office are working on. They will not be helping them find jobs, but dealing with the emotional aspect and where you can go. Des Raftery also talked about the Board working towards helping domestic violence victims. He thought that the Village could work on this in October, which is Domestic Violence month. Trustee Czarnik thought that it would be a good idea to tie this into Make a Difference Day. Linda Blair talked about fundraising activities such as the Donate-a-Phone Program to benefit WINGS. When making a donation to WINGS, we have to specify that the money needs to go to the domestic violence portion of the program. Otherwise, it will go to other areas. Des thought that it would be a good idea to promote this program at the Elk Grove Village Board meeting, possibly using the Silent ® Witness display. Des Raftery and Linda Blair will contact a representative from WINGS to talk to the Board. Vice President Tuozzo suggested making WINGS an ongoing program, not just in October. Mary Paliganoff suggested working more to get school supplies for the children. Linda Blair said that she would assess the need of school supplies in the community. Vice President Tuozzo came up with another suggestion to educate the community on all activities available. Other Board members said that this is already an ongoing process. Vice-President Tuozzo requested that all Board members come together with more goals for the Community Service Board. Linda Blair brought up the idea of reducing the number of times the Board meets, but Board Members seemed opposed. Community Service is a division of Health and Community Services, so all budgets are combined to one. filmh CSB Minutes Page three Des Raftery was concerned with the low funding of the Career Development account for the Community Service Coordinator. Old Business: Sheriff's Senior Medal of Honor award information seems to be misplaced every year, so Trustee Czarnik suggested that we should try to obtain this information. Committee Reports: Suggestion Box: Given by Mike Tuozzo We still need to get a Suggestion Box to the Elk Grove Pavilion. Trustee Liaison Report: Given by Trustee Nancy Czarnik The 50`h Anniversary Committee will be on Monday, January 24`h. Trustee Czarnik mentioned to Mayor Johnson that part of the fundraising monies would go to the 50th Anniversary Committee and the other half should go to charities, including the Community Service office. Announcements: The next Community Service Board meeting will be on Thursday, February 17, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. in Room "C" at the Village Hall.
