Action Items:
After Amy Mock spoke, Mary Paliganoff and a second by Georgia Landt approved the
minutes from the February 2005 meeting after a motion.
Coordinator's Report: Given by Linda Blair
Linda had two recipients for Sheriff s Senior Medal of Honor nominations,
she read the two nominations and they sound like great candidates. The Board agreed
on the nominations. Nancy made a motion to accept both nominations with a second by
Anne Feichter.
We discussed the possibility of having a Volunteer Breakfast like some other towns, but
we have a lack of volunteer nominations to honor. Other Board members pointed out
they have a hard time getting enough people to honor at the Award Banquet.
Linda stated that they were gearing up for Easter. The holiday baskets are being
prepared.
New Business:
Amy Mock from WINGS (Women In Need Growing Stronger) spoke to the Board as a
result of our inquiry into her program last month, she told us about WINGS and the new
shelter. Elizabeth Charmer, the Resource Coordinator, was not able to attend, you can
contact her at the shelter at (847) 348-3001 ext.114.

They are a Domestic Violence Shelter and have capacity for 20-22 individuals, but at
present there are only 17. They are in need of financial assistance due to budget cuts.
The hotline is answered 24 hours a day/seven days a week. This number(847) 348-3001
can be called if a woman needs a domestic violence shelter. They accept boys up to 12-
13 years of age, work with women who also have mental health problems and they have
to commit to stop using drugs while they are at the shelter. The shelter assesses people's
needs before coming in. It is difficult to have the volunteers because they need to be
trained for 40 hours. It costs $150 - $300 to train a volunteer, but they don't always have
the money to pay for that. Many community members are getting trained on their own.
The women are expected to be dressed by 8:00 a.m. Breakfast is between 7:30 a.m. -
8:30 a.m. They do light chores (vacuum, wipe tables, etc.). Then the women go to their
jobs if they have one. Otherwise they stay at the shelter to establish goals (how to get
back on their feet). They do have family nights to watch movies.
Vice President Tuozzo investigated ways that the board, community and individuals
could help out WINGS. If any donations are made to WINGS, you can designate it to go
® to their Domestic Violence Shelter. Georgia Landt thought that it would be a good idea
for the Board to sponsor someone to get the 40-hour training.
Mary Paliganoffthought that it would be a good idea to make people aware of the
organization before sponsoring someone. Des Raftery said that he notifies people about
WINGS during Domestic Violence month.
Linda Blair thought that we should look at this as an ongoing program to educate the
Community, not just a one shot deal. We could also look to a High School, Boy Scout
organization, etc.
Vice President Tuozzo offered to power wash a deck with the people making a donation
to help the Community Service Board pay for someone. Mary Paliganoffbrought up
liability issues that could arise.
Mike Cavallini thought that we could set up a booth at Rotary Fest to educate people
about WINGS and perhaps use the opportunity for a collection drive.
It was also suggested that we could do something with Adopt-A-Family for WINGS. For
instance, Linda received several Easter Baskets that could be donated to WINGS.
Linda Blair will contact the Jaycees to see if there is something that the Board could do
for WINGS with their Easter program. Linda thought that we could come up with a
Calendar for activities. Board Members will come with ideas for the Calendar.

Linda Blair was solicited by the Elk Grove Rotary to help them do something for the
Village with $10,000. Suggestions were making another statue in the Greenway.
Georgia thought that they could pay for a room at WINGS, but the Elk Grove Rotary
would probably want something in the Village. Teresa Anesenis pointed out that the
Library was working on making a sculpture to be placed outside, which is close to the
Greenway.
Linda Blair has been solicited to donate to the Park District. She thought that the Rotary
could designate the money for After School programs. Trustee Czarnik suggested that
they look into the Housing Fund. Des Raftery thought that we could call it the "Elk
Grove Rotary Housing Fund" and send them a report every month. It could be
announced at the Village Board meetings. Linda thought that the checks could say
"Rotary" on them.
Committee Reports:
Sueeestion Box: Given by Mike Tuozzo
There is still no suggestion box at the Elk Grove Pavilion. Mike is frustrated with this
situation.
Trustee Liaison Repo : Given by Trustee Nand Czarnik
Farmers Market will be starting up again. The 50` Anniversary Committee Calendar will
have dates. Nancy thought that we could tie in anything community service (Domestic
Violence Awareness, Blood Drive, Make a Difference Day, etc.) oriented into the
Calendar. We won't need these dates until May.
Announcements:
The next Community Service Board meeting will be on Thursday, March 17, 2004 at
7:00 p.m. in Room "C" at the Village Hall.
Adiournment•
A motion was made to adjourn the meeting by Mike Tuozzo and was seconded by Anne
Feichter at 8:37 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Ryan Bookler, Secretary
