New Business: Linda had a meeting with Gale Kulek, Head of Volunteers at Alexian Brothers and Jim Arey, High School Community Service Coordinator. They proposed putting a group of people together who were willing to volunteer to help with community projects (snow shoveling, raking leaves, etc.) The next meeting will be on May 6, 2005. CSB Minutes Page two Committee Reports: Old Business: The Board discussed having a fundraiser at the Rotary Fest or at the Elk Grove Parade to raise money for WINGS, the Domestic Violence Shelter. The Village Newsletter put in information about the Cell Phone Program offered by Charitable Recycling. Cell phones are sent to this organization. If there is any cash value, they send that money to WINGS. One problem we are running into is Charitable Recycling only accepts phones, not the accessories. Linda is looking into finding a way to dispose of the accessory items. President Morrill suggested giving them to Motorola. Last month we discussed having a booth at Rotary Fest, which is June 15 - June 19, 2005. Linda spoke with the Rotary Club to set this up and they wanted to know whether we were interested in a 10 X 20 tent or something smaller. The Board agreed for a smaller space. The Board needs to determine our purpose(i.e. information, fundraiser). A suggestion for a fundraiser was to sell bracelets. The proposed dates and times that we would need to be available at the Rotary Fest would be: June 17'h from 6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. June 18`s from mid-afternoon until 9:30 p.m. June 19s' from mid-afternoon until 9:30 p.m. We discussed putting the tent by Alexian Brothers. It was recommended that a sub-committee be formed to discuss this further. Georgia Landt agreed to head up the Committee with Ann Feichter, Desmond Raferty and President Morrill joining as members. Des Rafey informed us that $300 has been donated to WINGS Domestic Violence Shelter for presentations that he has done. Linda tried to identify all the active military personnel in Elk Grove, but it appears to be difficult. Georgia Landt suggested asking the residents for this information on the Water bill. We also need to remember the National Guard and Reserves. Linda tried to find out how many Elk Grove residents were serving in the National Guard, but she didn't receive this information. ® CSB Minutes Page three Linda had contact with Georgette Frank, the mother of the first Elk Grove war casualty. She is involved in a group that assists the families of other service people and may be a resource for this project idea.
