The Community Service office will be obtaining hats, mittens and other supplies for the "Kids Kloset". We need to discuss whether this program will be yearlong so that items are always available if kids need them. The Board suggested partnering up with office supply stores to obtain donations. Mary requested that we note the "Kids Kloset" will be collecting school supplies (i.e. pencils, paper, crayons, etc.) at this time and hats and mittens will be collected later. After this discussion the minutes from June 16, 2005 were approved after a motion by Mary Paliganoff and a second by Linda Blair. Coordinator's Resort: Given by Linda Blair Linda Blair was pleased to report that the Community Service Board raised $150.00 for WINGS as a result of the bracelet sale at the Rotary Fest. Vice-President Tuozzo thought that if this fundraiser happens again at Rotary Fest, then the evening should be the main focus of selling bracelets since that's when the most business took place. In the future we should eliminate the 12:00— 3:00 p.m. shift and instead have a 3:00 — 6:00 p.m. and 6 — 9:00 p.m. Also, the "Kiss Me I'm Irish" bracelet was the most popular. We should make sure our location is near the food stands and check to see if we can obtain the bracelets for a cheaper price on e-BAY. tCSB Minutes Page two Seven hundred ninety-eight dollars has been raised as a result of the Cell Phone Drive through Charitable Recycling. Linda will be looking into finding ways to dispose of the other items (chargers, cases, etc.) through companies such as Motorola since Charitable Recycling only takes phones. Thirteen families (13) have been given school supplies through the "Kids Kloset". Linda has contacted both School Districts and will be sending out flyers to make them aware of this program. Linda has been working with the Elk Grove Park District Foundation to get funding to subsidize programming for families. Now that the foundation is in place, Linda has been able to get some residents in need taken care of, but the process to obtain funds is long. The good news is that the foundation recently decided to put aside some funds that can be used at the discretion of the Community Service office. New Business: The Northwest Human Care Council will hold a Brown Bag lunch on September 15°i at the Village Hall focusing on the working poor. The Brown Bag will be the beginning of ® a discussion on addressing the needs of this population. The Outdoor Fall clean up for seniors in need is being advertised on flyers. No income level has been set to be a recipient of the service, but it's for lower income residents or residents who are limited physically. Student volunteers from EGHS, Alexian Brothers and members from the Community Service Board will participate in this effort. The culmination of this project could be on Make A Difference Day. Georgia Landt thought that we could put it on the Elk Grove Village sign on Wellington and Biesterfield while Anne Feichter suggested putting out a press release. Door Hangers are available with information about the West Nile Virus. Discussion about future focus of the Board produced suggestions surrounding youth issues. A suggestion to have a Youth Officer speak to us about these issues and what the Board can do to help. Georgia Landt, Anne Feichter, Mary Paliganoff, Teresa Anesinis, Mike Tuozzo and Ryan Booker agreed to be on the Make A Difference Day Committee. Anne Feichter agreed to chair the meeting and will send out an e-mail CSB Minutes Page three Committee Reports: Suggestion Box: Given by Linda Blair Three (3) out of six(6) cards were suggestions for the Library. A suggestion for summer activities, a village map that is easily accessible, implementing an automatic system to pay bills, and a suggestion about the hours the Village Hall is open. Old Business: The Silent Witness Program will be confirmed at a future Village Board Meeting. Vice President Tuozzo suggested that we brainstorm ideas for Make A Difference Day (MADD). Also, he thought that we should revisit the past minutes where the Board agreed to come up with ideas to look into as a Board that are ongoing, not just on one day. Mary Paliganoff mentioned that the Board should consider the liability when deciding on projects. The culmination of MADD should be to help benefit WINGS and Domestic Violence Month. A suggestion was given that we could have a drive with collection baskets strategically placed in the Village. An updated WINGS wish list will be requested. ® Announcements: Northwest Human Care Council Brown Bag lunch will be on September 15, 2005. The next Community Service Board meeting will be on Thursday, September 15, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. in Room "C" of the Village Hall.
