Coordinator's Report: Given by Linda Blair
The full report is included in the packet. Linda Blair attended a Brown Bag Lunch program today
on the Working Poor. The program was very insightful and interesting. The numbers of working
poor are increasing in the suburbs. The Community Service office is working with the Village on
a Food Drive for the Northern Illinois Food Bank. There was a general discussion of relief efforts
for the victims of Hurricane Katrina, including collections of non-perishable goods and the need
for money to assist with the long-term rebuilding efforts in the Gulf area.
New Business:
Anne Feichter reported on the meeting of the MADD Committee to organize activities for Make
A Difference Day, Saturday, October 22. The focus will be assisting the WINGS shelter in
Rolling Meadows with a collection of cleaning supplies and items for infants. Linda Blair will
prepare and distribute a letter requesting items on the WINGS "wish list" in these two categories.
Michael Cavallini identified new locations (Sears Hardware and Jarosch Bakery) for the Kiwanis
Peanut Day collection, in addition to the corner of Biesterfield and Meacham. Volunteers signed
up for two-hour shifts at these locations on September 22, 23 and 24.
