HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOMMUNITY SERVICES - 10/20/2005 - COMMUNITY SERVICES MINUTES ELK GROVE VILLAGE COMMUNITY SERVICE BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING MINUTES Thursday, October 20, 2005 Conference Room "C"—Lower Level, Municipal Building Board Members Present: Board Members Absent: James Morrill, President Anne Feichter Mike Tuozzo, Vice President Desmond Raftery Ryan Bookler, Secretary Nancy Czarnik, Trustee Liaison Teresa Anesinis Jim Foss Staff Present: Georgia Landt Linda Blair, Coordinator Mary Paliganoff Peg Vallillo Call to Order: Mike Tuozzo, President, called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. ® Action Items: The minutes from the September 16, 2005 meeting were approved after a motion by Peg Vallillo and a second by Jim Foss. Coordinator's Report: Given by Linda Blair The office has been gearing up for the holidays. Letters for Thanksgiving and Christmas were sent out today. Sergeant Dave Naumann will not be coming today to talk about Youth Services since there will be too many people absent. Linda received a call from Pam Amundson whose son was killed a few years ago, informing us that the Ricky Amundson Foundation has made a donation of$500 to the Housing Fund, another $500 worth of Jewel gift cards and several Target cards. The Foundation does take requests for donations and is a possible resource for Community Service. Residents continue to bring cell phones into the Community Service office. Michael Cavallini took phone batteries that the office received to the Motorola Recycling event. Old Business: Make a Difference Day (MADD) signage has been located throughout the Village. Anne Feichter submitted an article to the Daily Herald, but it has not been published as of yet. ® Some members thought that it could be published soon. We have received several donations for the MADD Food Drive, but we are aware that donations might be down or ® CSB Minutes Page two will continue to be down in the future with the amount of collections going on for the national disasters. The Board thought about partnering with the Lions Club for future events. if Lions has an event that needs additional volunteers, then the Community Service office would be willing to help. It was brought up that future goals of the Community Service Board could conflict with other ongoing activities such as the Celebration of the 50°i Anniversary of Elk Grove in 2006. Vice President Tuozzo thought that we shouldn't scale back any possible programs for the Board due to other activities in the Village. Linda Blair thought that we should continue to revisit the goals of the Board in future months. The Kiwanis Fundraiser brought in $8,000 for Elk Grove Village. Announcements: The Antique Appraisal Fair will be on Saturday, October 22, 2005 at the Sheila Ray Senior Center from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The next Community Service Board meeting will be on Thursday, November 17, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. in Room "C" at the Village Hall.
