MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING
OF THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS
OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE
HELD ON MARCH 19, 2013
Chairman Shapiro called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek Building,
901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village, and noted for the record that the following
members were present: Chairman Alan J. Shapiro DDS, Secretary E. Butch Ehrke,
Commissioner Michael Kontek.
It was moved by Commissioner Kontek and seconded by Commissioner Ehrke that the
minutes of February 19, 2013 meeting be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense
with the reading thereof. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman
Shapiro declared the motion carried.
PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES
1. Advocate Occupational Health, Invoice #475874 dated 2/12/2013 in the amount of
$50.00 for additional screening test required for police officer candidate.
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded by Commissioner Kontek that the
Board authorize the disbursement of funds for payment. The motion was voted upon by
acclamation whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried.
CORRESPONDENCE
1. Memo from Chief Mikel advising that Firefighters Bruess, Hoffman and Gutierrez
have satisfactorily completed the requirements of their probationary period.
2. Notice of Suspension from Chief Schmidt dated 3/13/2013 to Police Officer for
violating Rules and Regulations of the Elk Grove Village Police Department,
Section 26.1.IA, Rules of Conduct, Rule 13 (Failure to adequately secure, use, care
and maintain Department property or equipment).
OLD BUSINESS
1. Discussed Police Officer Hiring Process.
2. Discussed Firefighter Hiring Process.
3. Discussed Fire Lieutenant Promotional Process.
NEW BUSINESS
1. None.

ELIGIBILITY LIST/HIRING STATUS
1. Police Officer—Fourteen names remain on the final eligibility list published on
January 16, 2012. One hundred ninety two names remain on the preliminary
eligibility list scheduled to expire on January 16, 2014.
2. Firefighter—Eligibility list expired on January 7, 2013. Currently working on
scheduling new testing process.
3. Police Sergeant—Four names appear on the eligibility list which will expire on April
20, 2015.
4. Fire Lieutenant—Eligibility list has expired. Promotional process is underway.
ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded Chairman Shapiro that the meeting be
adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro
declared the motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 6:30 p.m.
