MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING
OF THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS
OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE
HELD ON APRIL 11, 2013
Chairman Shapiro called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek Building,
901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village, and noted for the record that the following
members were present: Chairman Alan J. Shapiro DDS, Secretary E. Butch Ehrke,
Commissioner Michael Kontek.
It was moved by Commissioner Kontek and seconded by Commissioner Ehrke that the
minutes of March 19, 2013 meeting be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense
with the reading thereof. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman
Shapiro declared the motion carried.
PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES
1. Theodore Polygraph Service, Invoice 3641 dated 4/10/2013 in the amount of$135.00
for polygraph examination of Police Officer candidate.
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded by Commissioner Kontek that the
Board authorize the disbursement of funds for payment. The motion was voted upon by
acclamation whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried.
CORRESPONDENCE
1. Notice of Suspension from Chief Schmidt to Police Officer dated 03/22/2013 for
violating Rules and Regulations of the Elk Grove Village Police Department,
Section 26.1.1A, Rules of Conduct, Rule 49 (Failure to appear in court when
required or scheduled). One day suspension to be served 04/05/2013.
2. Memo from Chief Schmidt regarding the six month performance review of
Probationary Police Officers Doherty, Johnson (David), and Jones.
3. Notice to Village Clerk dated 3/26/2013 advising that the regularly scheduled
meeting of the Elk Grove Village Board of Fire and Police Commissioners to be
held on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 has been cancelled and rescheduled to Thursday,
April 11, 2013 at 5:30 p.m.
4. Memo to HR Director advising that Firefighters Bruess, Hoffman and Gutierrez
have satisfactorily completed their probationary period and should be granted
permanent employee status effective 4/9/2013.

1. Discussed Police Officer hiring process.
2. Discussed Firefighter hiring process.

NEW BUSINESS
1. Fire Lieutenant Promotional Process - Written Examination will be administered this
evening.
ELIGIBILITY LIST /HIRING STATUS
1. Police Officer—Fourteen names remain on the final eligibility list published on
January 16, 2012. One hundred ninety two names remain on the preliminary
eligibility list scheduled to expire on January 16, 2014.
2. Firefighter—Eligibility list expired on January 7, 2013. Currently working on
scheduling new testing process.
3. Police Sergeant—Four names appear on the eligibility list which will expire on April
20, 2015.
4. Fire Lieutenant—Eligibility list has expired. Promotional process nearly completed.
ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded Chairman Shapiro that the meeting be
adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro
declared the motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 6:15 p.m.
