HomeMy WebLinkAboutFIRE & POLICE COMMISSION - 08/20/2013 - FIRE & POLICE COMMISSION MINUTES c: Village Clerk MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE HELD ON AUGUST 20,2013 Chairman Shapiro called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek Building, 901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village, and noted for the record that the following members were present: Chairman Alan J. Shapiro DDS, Secretary E. Butch Ehrke, Commissioner Michael Kontek. It was moved by Commissioner Kontek and seconded by Commissioner Ehrke that the minutes of June 18, 2013 meeting be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense with the reading thereof. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro declared the motion carried. PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES 1. The Blue Line, Invoice 27027 dated 7/12/2013 in the amount of$298.00 for thirty day online Firefighter recruitment listing. 2. Theodore Polygraph Service, Invoice 3782 dated 7/16/2013 in the amount of$945.00 for polygraph examinations for seven police officer candidates. 3. Theodore Polygraph Service, Invoice 3804 dated 8/2/2013 in the amount of$423.00 for polygraph examinations for three police officer candidates. 4. Stanard & Associates, Inc., Invoice SA000023360 dated 7/30/2013 in the amount of $395.00 for personality evaluation for entry level police officer candidate (Abad). 5. Daily Herald, Invoice T4346890 dated 7/21/2013 in the amount of$1004.00 for advertisement of firefighter testing process. It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded by Commissioner Kontek that the Board authorize the disbursement of funds for payment. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried. CORRESPONDENCE 1. Meeting Notice from Village Clerk cancelling the regularly scheduled meeting of the Fire& Police Commission to be held on Tuesday, July 16, 2013. 2. Memo from Chief Schmidt advising of the retirement of Commander Keith Briggs effective August 2, 2013 after 31 plus years of service. 3. Letter of Congratulations to Commander Keith Briggs on his retirement after thirty plus years of service. 4. Memo to Human Resources Director advising that FF Jeremy Sullivan has successfully completed his probationary period and is appointed to the permanent position of Firefighter effective 7/2/2013. 5. Memo to Human Resources Director advising that Police Officers Justin Wedekind and Anthony Mazzuca have successfully completed their probationary period and are appointed to the permanent position of Police Officer effective 6/22/2013. It is scheduled to expire on January 4, 2014. 7. Notice of Suspension from Chief Schmidt dated 7/25/2013 to Police Officer for violating Rules and Regulations of the Elk Grove Village Police Department, Section 26.1.1 A, Rules of Conduct, Rule 49 (Failure to appear in court when required). Three day suspension to be served on August 14, 15 and 16, 2013. 8. Congratulations letter to Lance Harris, Michael Keenan and Richard Garchie on their promotions to the rank of Battalion Chief effective 6/3/2013. OLD BUSINESS 1. Discussed Police Officer hiring process. 2. Discussed Firefighter hiring process. NEW BUSINESS -none ELIGIBILITY LIST/HIRING STATUS 1. Police Officer—Thirteen names remain on the final eligibility list published on June 24, 2013. One hundred forty nine names remain on the preliminary eligibility list scheduled to expire on January 16, 2014. 2. Firefighter—Eligibility list expired on January 7, 2013. Eighty five individuals have registered to take the written examination on August 24, 2013 3. Police Sergeant—Four names appear on the eligibility list which will expire on April 20, 2015. 4. Fire Lieutenant—Eight names appear on the eligibility list which will expire on May 6, 2015. ADJOURNMENT It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded Chairman Shapiro that the meeting be adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro declared the motion carried.
