MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING
OF THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS
OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE
HELD ON OCTOBER 15, 2013
Chairman Shapiro called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek Building,
901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village, and noted for the record that the following
members were present: Chairman Alan J. Shapiro DDS, Secretary E. Butch Ehrke,
Commissioner Michael Kontek.
It was moved by Commissioner Kontek and seconded by Commissioner Ehrke that the
minutes of September 17, 2013 meeting be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense
with the reading thereof. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman
Shapiro declared the motion carried.
PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES
1. Invoice dated 10/1/2013 from Illinois Fire and Police Commissioners Association in
the amount of$375.00 for 2014 membership dues.
2. Invoice SA000023863 dated 9/30/2013 in the amount of$1,580.00 for psychological
evaluations for four police officer candidates.
3. Invoice 501907 dated 10/2/2013 in the amount of$1,135.00 from Advocate
Occupational Health for medical examinations for two police officer candidates.
4. Invoice 501880 dated 10/2/2013 in the amount of$35.00 from Advocate Occupational
Health for supplemental medical screening for police officer candidate.
5. Invoice 497249 dated 10/2/2013 in the amount of$920.00 from Advocate
Occupational Health in the amount of$920.00 for medical evaluation of two police
officer candidates.
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded by Commissioner Kontek that the
Board authorize the disbursement of funds for payment. The motion was voted upon by
acclamation whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried.
CORRESPONDENCE
1. Letter to HR Director dated 9-18-13 advising that effective 9-28-2013, Police Officers
Doherty, Jones, and David Johnson have satisfactorily passed their probationary
period and should be granted permanent employee status.

2. Memo from Chief Mikel dated 9/27/13 advising that FF Nathan Gac is temporarily
appointed to the position of Fire Lieutenant. Temporary appointment to expire no
later than March 30, 2014.
3. New Firefighter Eligibility list was published on September 20, 2013. It contains 40
names and will expire on September 20, 2015.
OLD BUSINESS
L Discussed Police Officer hiring process.
2. Discussed Firefighter hiring process.
NEW BUSINESS - none
ELIGIBILITY LIST / HIRING STATUS
1. Police Officer—Three names remain on the final eligibility list published on June 24,
2013. One hundred forty nine names remain on the preliminary eligibility list
scheduled to expire on January 16, 2014.
2. Firefighter—New eligibility list contains forty names and is scheduled to expire on
September 20, 2015.
3. Police Sergeant—Four names appear on the eligibility list which will expire on April
20. 2015.
4. Fire Lieutenant— Eight names appear on the eligibility list which will expire on May
6, 2015.
ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded Chairman Shapiro that the meeting be
adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro
declared the motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 630 p.m.
