MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING
OF THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS
OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE
HELD ON NOVEMBER 19, 2013
Chairman Shapiro called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek Building,
901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village, and noted for the record that the following
members were present: Chairman Alan J. Shapiro DDS, Secretary E. Butch Ehrke,
Commissioner Michael Kontek.
It was moved by Commissioner Kontek and seconded by Commissioner Ehrke that the
minutes of October 15, 2013 meeting be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense
with the reading thereof. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman
Shapiro declared the motion carried.
PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES - None
CORRESPONDENCE
1. Written Reprimand dated 10-15-2013 to Police Officer for violating Rules and
Regulations of the Elk Grove Village Police Department, Section 26.1.1A, Rules of
Conduct, Rule 05 (Failure to Perform a Duty).
2. Notice of Suspension to Police Officer for violating Rules and Regulations of the Elk
Grove Village Police Department, Section 26.1.1 A, Rules of Conduct, Rule 49
(Failure to appear in court when required or scheduled). One day suspension to be
served Friday, November 22, 2013.
3. Notice of Retirement from FF Kevin Quinn effective 11/16/2013 after 23+years of
service.
OLD BUSINESS
1. Discussed Police Officer hiring process. Meeting with Chief Schmidt to discuss
staffing and the police officer testing process.
2. Discussed Firefighter hiring process. ,Meeting with Chief Mikel to discuss staffing
and the hiring process.
NEW BUSINESS
1. Discussed 2014 meeting schedule. It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and
seconded Commissioner Kontek that the starting time for our general monthly
meetings be moved up to 5:00 p.m. The motion was voted upon by acclamation
whereupon Chairman Shapiro declared the motion carried.

ELIGIBILITY LIST/HIRING STATUS
1. Police Officer—Three names remain on the final eligibility list published on June 24,
2013. One hundred forty nine names remain on the preliminary eligibility list
scheduled to expire on January 16, 2014.
2. Firefighter—New eligibility list contains forty names and is scheduled to expire on
September 20, 2015.
3. Police Sergeant—Four names appear on the eligibility list which will expire on April
20, 2015.
4. Fire Lieutenant—Eight names appear on the eligibility list which will expire on May
6, 2015.
ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded Chairman Shapiro that the meeting be
adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro
declared the motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 7:00 p.m.
